Any horror fanatics in the house?

RE: Any horror fanatics in the house?
On the literature front, while I don't normally read genre fiction, I'm currently reading Mark Danielewski's House of Leaves. While a good portion of it's devoted to postmodernism (including footnotes from several authors [Chapter 9 in particular stretches the bounds of readability, with footnotes housed in many different sections] and references to many, MANY fake documents, the bulk of it is devoted to a dissertation/recap of a fictional (not only out of universe, but apparently in-universe as well) film called The Navidson Record. It's described as being like a found-footage movie, although it was written (and was, indeed, set) before The Blair Witch Project started off that craze. And it's apparently a documentary. It starts with award-winning war photographer Will Navidson buying a house in the Virginia countryside with his model ex-girlfriend Karen and deciding to make a movie about a new adventure in his life, namely, settling down to a relatively normal existence that won't drive someone insane. Then, something unusual happens. After initially exploring the house, they find an entirely new room suddenly appear. After getting the blueprints to the house, they decide to measure it for themselves and find that it's bigger on the inside by 1/4". When they remeasure, they realise the orignial measurement was wrong, and it's actually bigger on the inside by 5/16". And the house gets more and more insane as the book goes on.

Just FYI: If you're asking why I keep putting house in blue, I will say it's that way in the book. Also, passages about the Minotaur are in red text and crossed out for reasons that are only mildly explained.

I highly recommend it, especially if you can find a full-colour edition (including the one purple-text phrase introducing a key moment in one narrator's life in Chapter 21.)

And given that Danielewski has turned down multiple offers (including six-figure offers) to turn the book into film (mainly due to every proposal trying to take out one of the nested storylines out of the novel), don't count on a movie based on it coming out anytime soon.

Interesting film I watched recently was, The Nightmare. It's kind of a documentary about people that have suffer from sleep paralysis. I've had sleep paralysis off and on my whole life. It's almost like being in a real horror movie. Just as you are falling asleep, something happens where you are stuck in between being awake and being asleep. You find yourself paralyzed, and start to feel and hear things in your room. Usually starts with a buzzing noise, and sense that something is in the room around you, or you feel the bed move like something is sitting on it. You open your eyes and see black shadow figures in the dark, or hear noises in another room. At least that's what you think, and you can't move. For me it was interesting because I could relate.
