Hopefully the American people will get it.
I fear, however, the loudest, most vocal portions of the GOP will praise the Senate for not doing their jobs because 'Murrica.
If I were a Democrat campaign manager, I'd welcome it -- I'd beat my opponent over the head with that obstructionism, forcing him or her to either denounce fellow Republicans, or defend hamstringing justice and its application here in America.
This is an opportunity for whichever Dem candidate wins the nomination, provided the nom is suitably aggressive. They should be licking their chops.

Obama says he will nominate someone quickly and Reid is already making noise about how Republicans have a duty to see the process through. They're off to a good start. I hope they keep pressing relentlessly.

Is it
GOD'S WILL
that Obama gets to name a replacement for Scalia ??
What other explanation could there be ???????????

Obama gets to pick, but the senate will almost certainly stall until after the election. If they win the White House, they'll stall until after Obama leaves. If they lose, they'll probably stop stalling.
Related question: how much does the stalling affect them in the general election?

Related question: how much does the stalling affect them in the general election? My guess is 1) not at all if Obama nominates someone who's very liberal or a university professor, and 2) slightly-to-moderately if Obama nominates a well-credentialed moderate-liberal Circuit Court judge, especially a woman or minority.

Don't worry, my friend. If this be the end, then so shall it be.

I can see it going both ways. The GOP base will praise the knuckle dragging, but will the moderates jump ship? Doubt it.

It's going to be a hell of a show regardless of what happens. This will be a very interesting year to anyone who has an interest in politics.
