Okay, that's a bit voluptuous! [emoji6]. Nothing wrong with that though, as long as you are healthy. If you are trying to lose weight though, and are looking for help, I'm a registered dietitian and would be happy to aid in any way I can. If you aren't, then rock those curves, girl! [emoji1]

Omg you are? I need one seriously. I've had to reschedule a Dr appt three times now because of the weather. All so I could get a referral to see a dietitian.

RE: Ask a fat girl 2.0
Many moons ago I used to be a PTI (Physical training instructor) in her majesty's forces. If all you're looking to do is lose weight, it really is a lot easier than you might think.

The perfect fat burning zone is between 40% and 70% of your maximum heart rate, any more and you're into the anaerobic zone and starting to build muscle. It's a common complaint of new gym goers, go to the gym to lose weight and you actually put some on in the first instance because, simply put, you're working too hard.

Best fat burning exercise I know of is the easiest, walking. A good hour walk, fast enough only to get your breathing slightly faster than normal is perfect fat burning exercise.

You don't often see fat dog owners for that reason. Go for an hour walk 5 times a week and, unless you're scoffing Big macs all day, you'll start to see the weight drop off.

I'd love to try this, but what do you do when you've been diagnosed with activity induced asthma? Walking up the steps with a full laundry basket gets me out of breath easily. I need something that's not going to cause me to hyperventilate because of my breathing.

Well, that makes it trickier, but not impossible.

How are you with a decent walk?  By that I mean, not trying to push yourself, is there a pace you can walk at that won't bring on the asthma?

What words are you referring to, exactly?

Annnd here we go again. Stop. Just fucking stop. You do this in nearly every thread. Must you continuously feel the need to fuck up other people's threads in this manner?

You know "exactly" what words she is referring to, so stop playing the "I need clarification because I'm stupid" game. Your narcissistic bullshit is, once again, grating on people's nerves here.

Well, hills are a challenge for me. They are everywhere around here. However, the high school track works. I can walk four laps on it, which equals a mile, without needing to use my rescue inhaler. I started with two laps and in a week had increased it to four. Progress, right?

Exactamundo, spot on.  Start small, build up gradually and you'll be flying in no time.  Asthma shouldn't stop you, as long as it's managed properly.  Amy Van Dyken is a 6 time Olympic gold medalist swimmer, she has asthma pretty bad.

Avoid hills, get to that track and get to it.  if I were giving a couple of pointers, I'd say make sure that you track your work.  If that's in a diary, or an excel spreadsheet...whatever, just make sure you log what you do.  if you put in the work, taking a look back through your log will really lift you and help keep you motivated.

Also, I'd buy a heart rate monitor, can be as cheap as you like, but it will really help.  What it will do is make sure you're not working too hard....you'll be surprised, especially if out of shape, how easy it will be to get to that 70% mark.  That monitor will keep you in that fat burning zone and make sure none of your exercise is wasted.

Don't just take my word for it, it's been a long time since i did this as a job, but the theory is sound.  In a few months, you'll be flying around that track.  Wink

Thank you SKH. One last question... as to not to continue getting this thread off where BQ wanted it to be, but how do you figure out what your target heart rate should be and what is a normal resting heart rate?

Ah, now....a quick Google search and I've found it is not as simple as it once was. When I was working, it was a simple 220 - Age for men. however, there now seem to be many:

I'd just use one of these calculators....although this one doesn't seem to care of you're a woman or man, which I find odd:

http://www.active.com/fitness/calculators/heartrate

Maybe use 206 - your age. 206 seems to be the new max for women. (I'm assuming you're a woman, sorry if that's not the case!!)
