Eagles of Death Metal leader sounds off on gun control

RE: Eagles of Death Metal leader sounds off on gun control
Well The fact that he is talking about gun control makes me think idiot too. What sensible person would want to live in a society without gun regulations. Also I'm tired of people celebrating young men dying in battle and using it to promote their agendas, If we really cared about our troops we would stop sending them to war.

That doesn't mean they're necessarily wrong either.

I happen to agree with the following. I think a few million potential gun owners who are trained and tested beforehand can be responsible enough so that a few hundred lives can be saved in a situation like this. For as long as there are criminals out there, bent on killing and hurting innocents, every single person on the planet has to learn to defend themselves in a variety of situations. Otherwise you're leaving your odds of survival entirely up to chance.

What exactly is meant by gun control, by the way? I think you should be not only able to get a gun but actually encouraged to do so. I also think as a gun owner you would have to have your mental health constantly checked and that you should be properly trained to use guns. And not only that, you would have to submit your worldviews for consideration and if it allows for unethical violence in any way(e.g. jihadism) you should be disqualified for that reason alone.

That's not to say I would like every single person to be a gun owner. But at least 1 out of 4 would be very good for society, provided they know how to use them and are not psychopaths.

Gun control just means gun regulations and laws.

I'm not against them, provided all people are able to get guns if they really want them - which is to say they would have to be properly trained to use them and also be tested for it to be determined whether they could be responsible gun owners.

Because banning guns only decreases the frequency of extreme violence as opposed to halting it completely; yay guns?
Thats what I'm getting from his point. Am I missing something?

Yay guns because if you introduce proper regulations you'll virtually halt it completely.

We're going to need guns until non-lethal alternatives that are just as useful are introduced and/or until we get rid of the bad genes/enviromental effects that make one commit extreme violence.

If enough folks are inconvenienced by the religion of peace, and start whining about it, sooner or later politicians are going to start stepping forward with promises to do something about it.

It's just how the world works.
