My views on objective morality
My views on objective morality
CL isn't a troll. For all of the other shortcomings of her arguments, I do not believe she is in any way a troll.

The hell she wasn't.  She came into a philosophy thread, started a post, and spent over 100 pages dodging every point and question, resorting to appeals to pity in lieu of making points.  Either it was the world's longest-running accident, or it was deliberate.  And it clearly wasn't an accident.

So what do you call someone who pretends to engage in a thread, but refuses to contribute to the content of ideas, does so knowingly and unrepentantly, and makes the whole thread about poor little her instead of the OP she created?  "Troll" works just fine.  To be honest, I think you guys are suckers, and you've been totally had by the Pollyanna act.

Well to be honest, there are PLENTY of other theists here who fit that description, better than CL, and we as a community continue to indulge in their bs.

Do we?  Do we treat them with ongoing kindness and respect?  Do people have a midnight vigil to grieve their sadness when they get poopie-pants because someone didn't shower them with rainbows and puppy dogs?

For the tiny bit of flack CL took for HER bullshit, the guys like Harris and a couple others take 1000x more.  Where's THEIR support group?

Benny, does have a point. This is a philosophy forum and CL really doesn't have the chops for it. Still I applaud her for trying and sticking with it.

That's entirely out of line. And you know it. CL has never been a troll. For you to even suggest something like that is just rude. Yes, she started a thread. Yes, she stopped posting in the thread and for anyone who's followed it from the beginning, it's understandable to see why she stopped posting in it. If you can't understand that, then there's something wrong with you.

Many of us, atheists as well, start threads and then they typically just fizzle out as we move on to other threads. She felt she was ganged up on. The discussion was dealt with and it's over. Why do you feel the need to keep dragging it up? Unless you want to actually stay on the topic, then stop being an asshole.

The fact that you can't seem to let it go, benny, makes YOU the troll.

First of all, let go of your hate towards CL. It's obvious that anyone reading this can see it. Second of all, CL does not do one tenth the amount of shit that the "others" you are referring to, do. In case it hasn't dawned on you, CL rarely engages posts like this one here. You will be hard pressed to find her preaching to anyone on these forums. You will be hard pressed to find her pushing her beliefs on anyone here. Unlike those "others", CL does not do any of that. She doesn't tell people they will go to hell if they don't believe in her god. She has more class and respect towards this forum than any other theist I've seen.

Unlike "others" that you've mentioned, you will not find her on every single religious thread doing the sort of word salad bullshit that we have to deal with by those "others".

Why this can't be put to rest is beyond me. It would seem that some people just like to argue for the sake of arguing. Perhaps it's time to start picking your battles carefully. No one is ever required to show up to every argument they are invited to. Learn from it and grow up.

Thank you very much Luckie for all the effort you went to Smile It was most kind of you.

I would hope everyone can now move on from this. I agree, I don't see CL as in any way a troll. Whatever your opinion of how she handled this particular thread, I don't think it is representative of her general desire to engage us as people.

She felt ganged up on because she had a philosophically weak argument, and a bullshit way of dodging challenges to her view. This is typical of religious people, and it is typical that atheists would pile on in response to a weak religious position. Bullshit with a pretty ribbon wrapped around it and a rainbow greeting card to present it is still bullshit.

I was responding to Luckie's apology. I don't think she should feel the need to apologize, since she never did anything wrong. By stating what was so horribly wrong with CL's trainwreck of a philosophy thread, I was throwing support to Luckie, a fellow atheist and great person, instead of CL, the passive-aggressive crybaby. If that's trolling, then I'll happily own it.

I suppose one person's puppy dogs and rainbows is another person's word salad. What I saw was a constant dodge of every philosophical challenge, and a constant appeal to pity in lieu of actual ideas. She made no attempt to quote or refer to other thinkers, no attempt to rationally explain her position, really she literally did complete nothing in this thread. Harris refers to other philosophers, to scripture, and attempts to string together multiple ideas in a logical progression. I don't find his arguments convincing, but at least he has enough respect for the process to attempt them.
