RE: Boin-ney, did I say it right?
Let me put it another way.  There's a disparity between what we the people expected, and what the DoD had been asked to do.  When we see that the DoD didn't do what we expected, in this instance..we might transfer that disappointment onto the other subject, what they'd been asked to do.  We might say they gamed that test, but that was the -only- way to pass it, and passing it...was what they were told to do.  That was their mandate.  Make this vehicle pass this test.

Now, if we feel that the mandate they were given does not meet our expectations, or that it should more closely meet them..the people to take that up with are not the people tasked with meeting the mandate, but the people who created it.  IMO.  I don't think that they could have met our expectations...those systems that became such hot button political issues still don't work on modern Bradleys, and it isn't for a lack of trying. HEAT rounds do what they do when they breach, that's a triumph of the rounds design, not a failure of an AFV's design. Most of the noise was due to misconceptions made apparent in the reporting. It's not a tank, it wasn't even designed to engage tanks..it was meant to match the BMP series. Joe Citizen doesn;t know that, though, and that's what helped politicians who -were- briefed to work up indignation on those counts.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

You still need a Bachelor's Degree to get a decent job. Because a degree alone doesn't set you that far apart from your peers with degrees, your GPA and performance will.

The answer is not less degrees, it's more of that beloved competition.

It is extremely difficult to make over 80k a year without one. It is not absolutely necessary, no, but not having one restricts your career choices immensely.

The reason a high school diploma means shit is because they have dumbed it down to the point where it is meaningless.

Of course, it's still good enough to become a cop.

Only for dumb asses. If you are stupid then you have to spend more time in school to become less of a dumb ass.

I have a masters, and I don't even make $80k/year.  And I live in an area with a high cost of living.

For the land of opportunity though, we have a lot of people who sure want to limit opportunity to people who can afford it. How many great people have missed out on going to college because they didn't want to put themselves into debt for life? One of my students is absolutely brilliant, but her brother already is so far in debt for college and with hospital expenses that unless she gets a full ride, she probably won't get to go.

Did the original poster really say that the work force would be ruined if too many people got a better education?  OMG, oh no, so many college graduates out there, no one will work at WALLMART anymore!  lol.

Only a True Christian ™ would actually complain about educating the populace for free.

Bah, plenty of people will still not bother to get an advanced education even if we give it away.  It takes more than money.  It takes desire and hard work.  Many people will still skip it and go straight into a trade, or settle for simpler jobs.  What a stupid fear, too much education. Bah.
