What's wrong with being a Republican? I said conservative, in the modern sense of the word. Frankly, I'd like to see more people in the GOP who have read a book not penned by their own circle-jerk apologetics factories, who understand what science actually is, and who don't base their ideas about racial relations on the notion that anything other than full-on Klan activities isn't racist. The USA is dangerously right-skewed, politically, compared to the rest of the modern world, to the point that most of our "centrist" Democrats would be considered conservative by a wide measure in any other democracy (I would count Hillary Clinton in that group.)

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. One must be dumb to be a Republican.
I mean seriously.
Republicans have created a platform where they only support the 1%
Granted, democrats are also in league with the corporation, but not quite to the extent as in relation to Republicans.
What always makes me realize how fucking dumb Americans are is that there are these poor redneck bible thumping idiots who claim the title of Republican merely because the Republican candidates mumble something about Jesus.
What makes those fucking dumb, poor American redneck bible thumpers even more idiotic is that they support a party that veritably ensures they remain poor.
What kind of logic is that?

My post followed yours but was not in response to yours.
I am a conservative in many ways. Just not always to the right. My positions change based on the issue(s) and not bound by the party line.
Edit: I see that 3 posts above mine, I find out that I am dumb.

Clinton is a bit liberal on social issues, but on all other counts, she would be in the Margaret Thatcher region in Europe. Obama, barring his war record, would be considered a moderate conservative.
As for the US being dangerously right-skewed, the whole western world is moving in that direction. And by that I certainly don't mean conservatism, which, at it's base, can be a centrist position. Best contemporary example, Angela Merkel in Germany. Although I don't share her economical view, she still endorses humanism, and I could vote for her. In fact, most of the German parties are electable. The only obvious exemption being the rightwing AFD.
Can't say the same about our own politicians and parties, from left to right, the only exemption being the Green Party. All the others have their pants full of the extreme right and try to divert voters by being as primitive and bigoted as them. Hungary has already fallen, Poland too and the Czech republic is on it's best way to follow suit.
So, the extreme right raises it's ugly head everywhere. Nationalism is back with a vengeance. Not only in the USA. And the funny, or actually not so funny thing is, that all these rightwingers appeal to what they call christian heritage. So it's a religious right we're talking about.

Having a conservative stance on issues, fine. But to me, seeing the current state of the Republican party, with so many unreasonable people in high-ranking places, it becomes a bit questionable why one would like to identify with them. Go and found a new conservative party, it would do the country good.
The fool hath said in his heart, There is a God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

What's with the paranoia from conservative types, in this country?
We don't hate Republicans; we just consider a great number of them to be disturbingly bigoted, and to express opinions which horrify us (like the way you feel about the most idiotic, white-boy-dreadlock-wearing hippie types when they talk about laws to keep you from hurting peoples' feelings, or whatever), and to be poorly-educated except in terms of swallowing propaganda put out there by Faux News and other conservative think-tank media outlets (all the while complaining in true paranoiac fashion that the media is liberal-skewed).
We don't hate business; we are simply aware that corporations are completely amoral in most cases, have their own shareholders/profit in mind above the well-being of the nation or its people, and have a looooooooooong history of doing underhanded and dangerous things to our nation/environment/people... all while attempting to gain power/control of legislators in order to pass even more laws that are favorable to those profit margins.
No one hates the wealthy. I don't even know where that stupid, stupid argument comes from. However, if you fail to recognize that wealth has had a dangerous (I would argue disastrous) influence on legal and social policy in this nation (and doubtless in others on which I am ill-equipped to speak), you have had your hands firmly placed over your ears and eyes. The wealthy class, unsurprisingly, work to further their own interests-- the difference between them and the rest of us is that they have more capacity to do it on the national stage (especially since the recent "corporations are people and money is free speech" Supreme Court ruling).
Finally, many MANY of us here are gun owners/enthusiasts. It has already been mentioned in this thread, just a page back.
I'm sick to fucking DEATH of this paranoiac bullshit, so sorry I snapped on ya, but GEEZUS FUCKING CHRIST, man.
