Game of Thrones Season 6 Discussion [SPOILERS WITHIN]
RE: Game of Thrones Season 6 Discussion [SPOILERS WITHIN]

In the preview of the season's finale Jamie's at the Twins, partying with the Freys. I wonder if there will be pies... Wink

I'd expect him to want to get back to King's Landing for Cersei's trial, especially if he finds out, about the ban on trial by combat. But maybe he's going to become more like book-Jamie at the end of ADWD - rather disillusioned with his relationship with his sister. Although in the book that seemed to stem - at least partly - from the fact, that Tyrion told Jamie about Cersei's infidelity; not sure why he'd suddenly come off her on the show.

So maybe he will come and stop her - I guess we'll see. I hope Cersei burns SOMETHING down. I don't see how she's going to get out of her current predicament otherwise. Well, to be fair - I'm not sure how torching the city will help her either, but at least it will look pretty. Tongue

Probably the best medieval pitched battle I've seen on-screen. Reminded me a lot of Saving Private Ryan, strangely enough. And the scene where Jon is being tramped/suffocated was..well, suffocating! Watching that scene was rough, just goes to show how well this episode was directed.

The cavalry charges were brutal, everything really felt like it had real weight to it. Also, unhinged battle-crazy Jon is best Jon.

hmmmm I'm sad.... Ramsay is dead now... Tongue

No more house of the flayed man... well... what on Earth (or whatever planet that is) was such a house doing second in line to rule the North?!
How does that happen?! How did all the northern lords ever allow that to become the status quo?
(I'm sure there's some lore about this out there... but I'm too lazy to go look for it)

It seems like the end is drawing near... the "good guys" are taking back all the shit that's happened to them.... GoT back on track for standard Good vs Evil fiction.

I still want to see Dragons burning whitewalkers, though.... but their likely path leads first to King's Landing, so there's still some time to go.
Wildfire.... dragons.... King's Landing is going to be turned to rubble by the time both these incendiary "items" get used there.

How did Theon and Asha get to Meereen so quickly? Don't tell me they have "Little Finger Transport"™ for ships, too!!!?!
That Little Finger has his ...er.... finger in all corners of the market!

Hmmm... Maybe the Red Woman can bring him back? It would be fun to have him walk around half-eaten... Tongue

I believe most of the houses of the North took heavy losses, backing Rob during the War of the Five Kings. Even if they were against Boltons being installed as Wardens of the North by the king - and many of them probably didn't care one way or another, judging by their reaction to Jon and Sansa's return - there was little they could do about it right away, especially with the winter coming.

They might have thought to rebel at some point, once they rebuilt their armies, but that's why Ramsey married Sansa, the last known Stark, so that their children had rightful claim to Winterfell, according to the laws and customs of the North. Once enough time passed - everyone would hopefully get used to the status quo. After all - having scumbag overlords seems to be par for the course in GOT universe.

Well... yes and no.
Who decided that the Boltons should be second in command, after the Starks?
How would the Starks, while Wardens of the North, allow such a vicious house to have so much power? So many men? so much wealth to control all those men?
Something messed up happened in the past, over there...

King Joffrey did, or his Hand - Tywin. They made Roose Bolton Warden of the North, as a reward for betraying the King in the North. In the eyes of the Crown - the lords of the North, siding with Rob were rebels - they were lucky they weren't all put to the sword after the Red Wedding. Why would the king allow any of those houses to rule the North?

Well, yes - quite a lot, actually. In the books we are told that Boltons used to hunt and skin Starks like animals, possibly because Starks were known to warg into wolves. I'm not sure why Ned tolerated Boltons, but presumably it's because their rivalry was in distant past (a thousand years ago) and at some point Boltons submitted to Starks, who were too honorable to massacre a defeated foe.

Roose Bolton also helped with Robert's rebellion against the Mad King and - while a cold and cruel man - he wasn't a psychotic, unpredictable bastard, like his... err... bastard. We only started hearing about the exploits of Ramsey after Ned left for King's Landing. And in the books Bran did try to bring Ramsey to justice for his crimes, but the bastard was detained, pretending to be a servant - the original Reek - and then Theon took Winterfell and set him free.

Come to think of it, I don't think I can recall any large scale medieval pitched battles from TV or film. Maybe Braveheart. But goddamn I love me some pitched battles.

Just a quick note, they submitted this episode for Emmy consideration in a bunch of categories. I think that was a good choice, heh.
