Christian answering questions.
RE: Christian answering questions.
It was kinda hot too . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.

Well if you'd like to have an actual, honest, intellectual conversation, I'd love to talk about biology with you, as I am a former biologist and enjoy debunking Creationism.

You'll find derision (not necessarily the same as animosity) here in spades, when you make comments like the above. Most of us are quite-well-educated in the sciences, and find contempt for those who claim to hold such positions, during our numerous discussions on the same subjects, time and again. We have learned that such people are rarely honest, engage in the most astounding forms of observer bias, and have no concept about what science even is, let alone what it really says.

It's difficult to treat each new person in a light as respectful as they would prefer, over time. I ask your forgiveness. It is possible that you will be different from the scores we've seen before, who come in and make statements similar to yours. Usually, there's a link attached, which is against the rules for new posters; clearly, you observed the rules by not doing so, and so I thank you. I hope you truly are not like the other Creationists with whom we have dealt too often, in the past.

Fresh sheet of paper?
A Christian told me: if you were saved you cant lose your salvation. you're sealed with the Holy Ghost

I replied: Can I refuse? Because I find the entire concept of vicarious blood sacrifice atonement to be morally abhorrent, the concept of holding flawed creatures permanently accountable for social misbehaviors and thought crimes to be morally abhorrent, and the concept of calling something "free" when it comes with the strings of subjugation and obedience perhaps the most morally abhorrent of all... and that's without even going into the history of justifying genocide, slavery, rape, misogyny, religious intolerance, and suppression of free speech which has been attributed by your own scriptures to your deity. I want a refund. I would burn happily rather than serve the monster you profess to love.

Reminding us of previously permabanned posters here is bad form too . . .

Sir, I stand corrected, that was animosity. Any other words of wisdom you care to share with me this evening?

I did laugh however!

What is a former Biologist? Are you no longer in the field of study? I would have a question or two that could possibly be in your wheelhouse. I myself am not a scientist, nor do I have an abundance of letters after my name in my signature block. I do believe myself to be intelligent and I honestly do hope to be different from most other professing Christians or theists that have passed through this forum.

As to the discussion of a young earth or the age of the universe I would not think that my opinion on the matter to be a major sticking point within my understanding of Christianity.

TheRocketSurgeon, thank you for your response and explanation of the forum. I am not here to offend anyone. I am a shy person and thought this medium would give me an opportunity to converse with others and fulfill a need in my life.

My question for someone with your background would be your thoughts on the fossil record as it relates to evolution. It is my understanding that the fossil record does not support evolution in the sense that there are few, if any, fossils of transitional species. Examples of fish evolving into land animals and such. That the record shows several periods of many new species emerging, but nothing that would show evolving from one species to another.

Bones and flesh dissolve, deteriorate, rot or whatever. It is only under special circumstances that a fossil forms at all, let alone a good one. So where are all these "transitional species"? They rotted away like 99%+ of all lifeforms. That we can find any record of evolution is amazing.
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.

God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.

Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things.

Modern medicine because evolution is a thing.
Without evolution and if creation were to be true we would have made the ultimate cure all already.

The way you posed this question underlies the entire creation/evolution argument. One side hasn't the first clue about what the thing they're arguing against even is, they just know it's wrong. Evolutionary theory does not posit that animals morph into another species, and that a snapshot of species' at any given point will be a perfect middle ground between a past species and a present species.

The fossil record is one of the best evidences for evolution. There are transitional fossils across the spectrum, but every time another transitional form is discovered, conveniently that leaves two "gaps" in the fossil record where there was one, by the creationist's count. There are transitional forms of mammal-like reptiles, there is Tiktaalik, a wonderful example of the transition between fish and tetrapods (like you asked). We have an excellent understanding of the evolution of the horse. We have an excellent understanding of the evolution of whales as well.

I would advise you to real a little bit about what the theory of evolution actually is rather than the strawman version your local pastor lampoons.

"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Great post Steel Smile

Hi, welcome to the forum Pete.

You should definitely pay attention to what the knowledgable folks here have to say. It's fine to argue against evolution, but it's important to understand what it actually is first. Otherwise you're arguing against an imaginary person making wild claims which are nothing to do with evolution.

A "transitional species" is not something like a half badger half frog. Better get that one cleared up. Everything is a transitional species. Evolution is a continuous, gradual process. The points at which we identify groups of animals such as "cat" or "badger" is essentially arbitrary. We do it for convenience.

I made a video which is hopefully a user friendly guide as to what evolution is, and isn't.

Also, debunking evolution does not support a young earth in any way. It requires ignoring all of science and instead believing a story book.
