I am already writing something, and I do not want this new idea.

The setting is normal human reality.

The animals in this setting have a perception beyond those of humans only in the sense that they can perceive an outside influence.

The outside influence is a race of beings that survives by moderately living on the life force of humans, thus why the humans age and die.
