RE: Controversial views
Hey Rob. Gonna have to disagree with the medical testing on animals. Not sure what prescriptions you (your family) takes but I know that they would not be available without (on the market) without the necessity of animal testing.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

Yes, I agree that for medication current laws generally force animal testing. And I have to take medication, which makes me something of a hypocrite. If there was a way round it, I would take it. Unfortunately the alternatives, at various points in my life, would be living with constant pain from Chrons disease and/or depression and probably killing myself.

My point is that the animal testing is actually unnecessary to the whole process. If I'm wrong about this, I'll find out when I try and properly source it. But this has been my understanding so far.

RE: Controversial views
My morality is to try and do the least harm. It's an ideal, and I don't pretend I always live up to it. I try my best, and to continue improving.

In the case of medication, I can't avoid the harm, realistically. For everything else, I buy things not tested on animals such as toothpaste, cleaning products, shampoo etc. These are widely available from big suppliers, even many supermarkets now. It's become clear all the testing being done for these was unnecessary. Oh and cosmetics. Yet many companies continue with it regardless. It's mostly own brands which have a BUAV approved logo on them, and some other more "natural" type third party suppliers. Sadly the biggest names tend to still use animal testing.

The own brand products are priced very reasonably too, this isn't an expensive venture. I use Superdrug, Coop, Marks and Spencer's, even Tescos have made many things not tested; and morrisons have finally brought out their first product I think. It's become almost as easy to buy not tested stuff.

I believe the same is true of pharmaceuticals, that the process isn't needed. But I will try and find sources for such when my brain is up to it. I think it's carrying on due to money, not because it actually achieves anything. Even if it does achieve something, I still think it's wrong.

THERE.  I said it.

This thread's called controversial views Min

Considering most people are theists and not all atheists believe all theists are emotional cripples, what Min said is controversial.

[sarcasm]Yeah and while we're at it lets have creationism in schools as an alternative. Surely it's better to have an open discussion about it? [/sarcasm]

Evidence matters. Vacinations don't cause autism and not vaccinating children is as neglectful as creationism is ridiculous.

This one is going to get some hate but I'm gonna go ahead and say it...

If you're a lesbian, supposedly attracted to women, why do you date "women" who look like fat men?

I don't have a problem with it before people cry "bigotry", I'm just confused by it. You go through all the shit society gives you by claiming lesbianism, to date... basically a man anyway, a transman who just hasn't started hormones yet.

I mean it's one thing to cut your hair short, not go heavy on the makeup and wear casual clothing, most women who do this still clearly look like attractive women. Make-up and pink frills do not necessarily maketh the woman. But when you're a woman walking around with a blue mohawk, neck tattoos, teeth missing, a beergut and baggy mens' clothing head-to-toe, I do have to wonder what lesbians see in you in the "I'm attracted to women" department.

I'm sorry

By the same token you could ask, why do men date women being rather on the strong side. I once dated a girl, who really didn't have the ideal body measurements, but her personality made more than up for it. She was sexy because of her charisma, not because of her looks, although her face actually was pretty.
