Rio Olympics, triumph and tragedy . . . .
I'm proposing a thread here for all our Rio Olympics postings and that we can keep active this year, so keep that in mind while you're posting.

2 people were killed when this apparently shoddy elevated bike path collapsed recently.  (the casualties were not Olympic bikers)

Considering the relative lightness of bicycles, one might think designing and building an elevated structure for them would not be that difficult.  Unclear so far if it is a material, design, or construction problem, I suppose it could be an unsavory mix of 2 or 3 causes . . . .

I'm a fan of gymnastics, soccer, and sailing.

First and foremost, it's been distressing seeing the Brazilian government be so slow with cleaning up the water there. It is full of raw sewage, apparently, and that will directly affect sailing events (not sure how it will impact America's Cup 2017. Not sure if any AC sailors are racing. I know they don't use AC45 [or whatever it is now] boats).

It's been interesting reading up on and watching developments in U.S. Soccer. It seems like coach Jill Ellis has a lot of ways she can go with the roster. Very glad Wambach is gone. She was slowing down in certain phases of the game, and, well...her drug/drink issues. Don't need that drama.

In gymnastics, I'm rooting for Ragan Smith to get a spot. She's fun to watch and a Kim Burdette (Zmeskal, from the '92 Olys) protege. Seems to be hitting a growth spurt, but still doing well.

But yeah. Don't get sick, everybody.

Any guess as to how much the arrest rate of the homeless will jump during the Olympics?
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

They also mentioned a possible Ebola outbreak with the 2 deaths yesterday on our news here.

Well, I suppose there are better things all those street urchins could be doing besides knifing tourists.

Entertaining priests springs to mind for some reason . . . .

Knew it. Omaha get a hush hush "cleaning" during the college world series.
