Hillary Apoligizes to Coal Miner

Hillary Apoligizes to Coal Miner
At West Virginia event.

I'm a Hillary supporter but I think she dropped the ball here. She lied and tried to spin her earlier comment about putting coal companies out of business. She should have stood her ground.

I'm sorry for the people who will lose their jobs because we're moving away from coal but that's the way it is. Coal is killing us and we have to move away from it. This kind of thing has played out countless times over the ages. There's no significant market for carburetors, vinyl records or cassette tapes either. Technologies become obsolete and are replaced. People have to move on. There's no reason to apologize for it. Coal is a particularly nasty technology that has no place at all in the 21st century. Why sugarcoat it?

Coal-burning power plants MUST go away. It sucks for a minority but that's how it has to be. I wish Hillary would stick to her guns and be honest about this. It's not like she's fooling the coal miners anyway. They're not rocket scientists or neurosurgeons but they're not stupid either.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Coal miners are a lot more useful than rocket scientists anyway, let's just stop space travel and put them out of business as well. Coal isn't going anywhere and you need to accept that.

Uh, no, with the technological advances coming our way that's non-reliant on coal and other forms of fuel (electric cars, solar panels, etc.), and the often severe environmental effects of consuming coal and other fuels, coal may not be going anywhere but we really need to stop consuming it. Let it just stay in the fucking ground.

Asteroid mining might be what saves human civilisation. Fusion power is just as far off as it has ever been. We're facing the long emergency. Resources and the capacity to pollute are depleting at an exponential rate while demand is growing at an exponential rate. Add to that an economy that needs to expand at an exponential rate in order to function properly. Anything less than 2% runs the risk of deflation. People don't actually realise quite what a bad situation we're in. For example, there are only about 100 harvests left due to top soil depletion. The amount of earth that must be dug up and refined for a smidgeon of rare earth materials is tremendous. Yet we need these materials for renewable energies, for computers etc.

Yet there is an awful lot of stuff out there in our solar system. What's expensive is getting out of Earth's gravity well. But that only needs to be done once if you can build a permanent presence in space.

It's going to be tough building space oil tankers robust enough to withstand entry into Earth's atmosphere.

There's over 600 coal plant locations in the US.  http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Exi...oal_Plants It'll be very dark if they stop operating.

Whoops I misread it as Hitler apologizes to coal miner. That would have been a scoop.

Yeah, somehow I did too. Maybe I confused Louis C.K.'s jokes with the title.

From 2008 to 2012 the coal industry lost nearly 50,000 jobs in the US.  This had nothing to do with Clinton.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised last year when I got a call about how Obama was apparently trying to shut down coal factories. I was like "We still use coal?". The guy on the phone wasn't really up for talking about it much, though. He just wanted me to vote against Obama. But yeah, apparently we still use coal, and they're trying to save an outdated industry.
