In the midst of "medical miracle"

Wait, maybe god/prayer working through physicians? Has your family told the physicians that "If it were not for god you (MD's) would not be making a difference. Thank god that he sent you to medical school and gave you all that talent. Sorry he couldn't help pay for your schooling. Could you feel god directing your hand as you held the scalpel?"?

Should probably keep quiet until he is out of the woods.

You know, that arguments pisses me off more than any other, "God gave doctors their skills and dedication to helping others!"

In that case why did I have to spend $47 k a year to go to medical school for years, then be an intern, then residency, then training in my specialty?

Why did I have to work so hard, struggling a lot, emotionally and financially, when he could have snapped his fingers and given me my skill?

Yeah, I thought that might get you going. Apparently this is not the first time (or last) that we have heard it!

I'll tell you a story, which I think I've mentioned here before, from when I was a student and working at a hospital in my "spare" time to pay the bills.

There was a serious accident and a boy around 17 years old came into the A&E, badly injured and with serious head injuries.

He was in emergency surgery for over ten hours.  We flew in a neurologist to help.  Around 8 surgeons and over a dozen nurses were involved in stabilising him.

His parents were interviewed on local TV and they thanked "god" for their son's survival.  No mention of the highly trained doctors and nurses who helped him.

My turn, school also, med-surg floor. Lady told the surgeon in rounds after seeing the patient " I thank the lord almighty that he guided you in/when (can't remember which) saving my husband". The surgeon did a 180 and walked. The flock started snickering and followed. I don't remember the surgery, something GI and non life threatening.

Yeah, I took it as a personal slight when one of our forum theists told me it was their imaginary friend who sent me to Sierra Leone a couple of years ago to fight the Ebola outbreak.

Makes me wonder why their god inflicted ebola on the people in the first place.  It's a horrible way to die.

*shrug* I'm often told it was a miracle that I survive my 'accident'. My usual reply is, 'If it was a miracle, why did I need a whole hospital wrapped round me for six weeks?'

RE: In the midst of "medical miracle"
The incident that got me seeking out other atheists online was when American basketball star Magic Johnson was one of the early recipients of the anti-HIV drugs in the mid 90s. As with most other patients, it reduced the amount of active HIV in his body to undetectable levels. His reaction? "I give all the glory to God." This REALLY pissed me off. No "glory" for the real-life men and women who researched and developed the drugs which saved his sorry ass.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
