Mainstream christianity has nearly always backed the authoritarian or absolutist forms of government, from the rcc giving official backing to the Ancien regime and the various Habsburg lines in Austria and Spain, through the orthodox support for the Autocrat of all the Russias to lutheran support for Swdish and Danish absolutism and reformed support for the Prussian version. The only groups which ever supported democracy fully within christianty were fringe, non-hierarchical groups like the Anabaptists (one of the reasons both sides of the reformation hated them) or quakers.

The best you can say about mainstream christianity is that it has come to a grudging and half hearted (in that the various churches will push back if they think they've a chance) acceptance of representative democracy in the sixty odd years since WW2. And that is only because the new breed of authoritarian right wanted to mould religion to their needs rather than work with the religious. Remember the churches were happy to work with nazism until they realised it wanted them under its thumb, and they worke with fascism until the 70's.
