I have read the article, and it looks like a young, vulnerable man was duped into this by a pair of snake oil salesmen, and when it looked like he was getting cold feet they pressured him into going through with it. So, yes it's the two pastors' fault as they lead the young man into a path he shouldn't have gone down.
But then again, I suppose mouthing off is to be preferred to gaining knowledge.
