Egypt Air loses another aircraft

RE: Egypt Air loses another aircraft
The plane appearently made a complete 360 degree turn before crashing.

That can be attributed either to mechanical or electronic fault, or physical damage to the aircraft that destroyed directional control but left the airframe moderately airworthy otherwise.

Exactly. Right from the start, the spoke of a 90 degree turn followed by doing a 360, while losing height. It wasn't a sudden event like a bomb tearing the fuselage apart. Might still be a bomb, but there's an abundance of other possible reasons too.

Smoke alarm in the cabin, the avionics and a lavatory, shortly before the crash.

So the crew could have been already unconscious, which also could explain why they were incommunicado.

It seems unlikely that incapacitation by smoke alone can happen so quickly that the crew could not send out a message if the cockpit communication equipment had not been disabled by fire first.

However this would not be the first time a major avionics fire near the cockpit led to the loss of a passenger aircraft. A Swissair MD-11 jumbo jet was lost due to this cause. The intensity of the fire and smoke in the cockpit forced the crew out of the cockpit in that instance. Evidence of this was found in the form of molten droplets from overhead equipment panel burned their way into the cushion of the pilot and copilot' seats, indicating they were not in their seats in the later stages of the fire.

It seems unlikely. But there has been some greek aircraft crash some years back where the whole crew and the passengers fell unconscious and the plane just continued on it's programmed path until it ran out of fuel.

Looks like a fire in the electronics, if the recent reports are right. Not the first time something like that happened, as you said. It would also shine a light on my original suspicion of the egyptian minister just covering his ass by calling it a terrorist attack without having any data. And I don't even go to Trump, since we all know that there's a guy, who doesn't need any data to call something what he believes to be politically convenient.

Just because there was a fire it doesn't mean that it wasn't deliberately instigated.  If it wasn't there's also a major problem since all of that type of airplane will have to be inspected for wiring defects.  This will be a major interruption in air traffic around the world.

Did I call you an idiot recently? You have got no clue how these investigations are conducted, do you? Of course they will inspect all the wiring they can lay their hands on. And of course it won't disrupt any traffic. If they indeed find any fault with the wiring they will either advise to replace it within a certain time, if there's something faulty with the setup or they will find out that maintanance wasn't up to scratch.

Been there, done that with previous accidents.
