Can you persuade me from Agnostic to Atheist?

RE: Can you persuade me from Agnostic to Atheist?
Probably not. Nor am I interested in doing so. What difference does it make? Not much of one. As far as I'm concerned the important catagories are religious and non-religious. Or even 'Those who think as a group' and 'Those who think as an individual.'

It is easy to be an atheist.  There is no god.  However, if one is to believe in a god, what exactly is it that you believe in?

Do you actually have a description of what a god is?  Or is god nothing more than a vague concept drilled in by family and peers?
You make people miserable and there's nothing they can do about it, just like god.
-- Homer Simpson

God has no place within these walls, just as facts have no place within organized religion.
-- Superintendent Chalmers

Science is like a blabbermouth who ruins a movie by telling you how it ends. There are some things we don't want to know. Important things.

Ok, dude. We're all standing inside a room.
Is there a panda scratching her belly outside the door?
You say you don't know.
Some of us say we don't know, but we don't believe there is.
You ask us to convert you from not knowing, to not believing,
but conversion is not relevant, because these two positions can be assumed side by side, and they do not contradict each other.

Excuse my panda example. Pandas are cute.

My favourite ever article involving pandas:

http://www.cracked.com/article_21105_8-i...pt.-2.html

Quote:In 1974, three world leaders were forced to step down. Their scandals weren't connected, but the three had one very strange, very specific thing in common: They had all been given exactly two pandas.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

It's simple - "Are you a theist?"

If "YES" - then you are a theist, (tautology);
If "NO" - then you are an atheist, (also a tautology).

Anything else about you may or may not follow from that.

Theism / atheism is about belief.
Gnosticism / agnosticism is about, (alleged), knowledge, (or lack of it).

It is quite non-contradictory for a person to be an agnostic theist, (or alternatively, as some people, myself included, view themselves as agnostic atheists).
It is possible to show by evidence and logic, that some gods, (as they are conceived / defined), could not possibly exist.
I do not know how to show by evidence and logic, (ie. prove), that no gods at all exist. Yet I have no good reason to believe that any do.
Hence . . . agnostic atheist . . . no belief and no proof, but buckets of thought and the requirement for good evidence and reasons, BEFORE belief.
I live without belief, and so without fear of any god. I live as if there are no gods. A lifetime thus far, has not caused me to find nor revealed to me, any  good evidence and reasons for god-belief, and the longer that goes on, it seems that the more comfortable I am with the idea that there really are no gods whatsoever.

How does all that sit with your own situation, AgnosticMan123 ? I suggest that you make your own conclusions about your position.
There are no atheists in terrorist training camps.

I guess you know lots of xtian apologist/missionary sorts really care about defining agnosticism as an inability to form a belief in either direction.  Can't imagine why they should care so much let alone why they think that anyone who disagrees with them is being evasive.

Read the talk page; atheism refers to belief; agnosticism refers to knowledge, hence,

"a-theism" = "not theism"
"a-gnosticism" = "not gnosticism"

A Gnostic is one "who knows".  Consider Dawkins' belief scale:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectrum_o...robability

I consider myself to be around a 6; Dawkins is a 6.8 or 6.9, usually, Richard says he is the latter.
