This makes no sense, they cant co-exist, its one, or neither.
Christians cant sacrifice God's supposed Omnipresense or hell in order to have a somewhat consistent belief.

Let me try to explain from my perspective. If you're actually interested in hearing it, and not just interested in criticizing us Christians for what you think we all believe in, regardless.

Personally my belief is that Hell isn't a physical place, it's a state of being. It's when a person has fully and consciously rejected God after they die, which at that point means they have rejected love and goodness, since they learn at that point that God IS love and goodness. This is a self punishment because we are creatures of love, made for love, and we need it to be happy. So when we are so filled with hate and pride and greed that we reject love and goodness, we are only making ourselves miserable and empty. That is Hell.

Hope that helps clear it up.
You say "us christians" like its universal. Some Christians believe in a literal hell, which is a literal seperation from god.

I never claimed you all believed this. It mainly applies to those who do belive in a literal seperation.

This is not "self punishment" I dont believe or worship your god, what he choses to do with that information is 100% up to him.

I thought hell was fire and brimstone, and as Jesus described "the gnashing of teeth".

I don't think the fact that people fight over religious beliefs is reason to discredit God belief in general.

Maybe not a good enough reason to say there is no God maybe? (although there are many other reasons) But probably a good enough reason for a benevolent person to conclude that God is not benevolent.

Introducing such a poorly written book that can obviously lead to division across the world and even within its own church has to be foolish in the very least.

/rand over. (I've been having a lot of those)

I promise I will treat everyone with respect, but I do note I come from a privileged position being in the UK.

The dark days of persecution of atheists has virtually disappeared here and for several decades.

I don't think that can be said about the US .... some of your evangelists I have seen are pretty radical and frightening .... from stories I have heard the admission of atheism can lead to loss of jobs, children excluded from school activities, etc etc.

So with your (misplaced) Christian understanding it should be expected that some atheists can be like kids in a sweet shop, out of the glare of the more radical evangelists , and do have grounds for some apprehension when they are followed into the only refuge  Wink

I am sorry on behalf of Christians for the way some of our own have treated atheists. That's not right.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Why don't you say something coherent instead of the philosophical babble that seems to be your stock in trade.  Reality is obviously way too hard for you.

It's going to be news to you and I'm not expecting you to understand this straight away, but bear with me - special pleading is NOT good philosophy. I'm well aware, that you have all sorts of nonsensical apologetics and convenient semantic excuses, dreamt up and collected over the millennia of brainwashing illiterate peasants - so what? Just because Christians base their beliefs on convoluted dogmas and twisted definitions - it doesn't mean I have to accept those as any sort of reasonable explanation.

Ah, it could be worse.

I've been told that too. I told the woman that hell isn't so bad, depending on where you live. The worst places on earth tend to be theocracies, and dictatorships. Which goes in line with the god they love so much.

Sorry, CL, lately I've been losing patience because the so-called rational skeptics have been trying to avoid seeing their objections be decimated. I've debunked their "no evidence" card three times on separate threads by listing the clear and obvious evidence. Not one atheist has even attempted to respond.

If your signature is any example of your evidence, or *ahem* sophisticated philosophical arguments, that have decimated atheist objections to the existence of gods, you aren't doing yourself any favors.

"Metaphysically necessary" and "whose nonexistence is impossible". Please...

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

I was thinking employing the famous evidence meme, but honestly what good would it have done for one who veritably ignores reality for his delusion?

Exactly and there are things today that we can observe and have no answer for.  However, we cannot observe god, because god does not exist.

I can study and test entanglement, but it defies what we know of physics and relativity for now.  I can study and observe particle/wave duality, but there is no clear answer for now.  I can test for dark matter and dark energy, but again, there is no clear answer for now.

I cannot see, study, test, observe god.  I cannot see, study, test, observe interactions of god.  Why?  Because it is a fairy tale dude.  You keep talking about proof, evidence, logic and yet, nothing has shown god to exist.

The only way a god can exist is in the minds and writings of the deluded.  No where else can god be seen or observed.

A real god cannot exist because what it would take to allow such a being to exist would negate it from the start.
