We require drunk drivers to abstain from alcohol, which also changes the body chemically.

We require children to be inoculated before they're admitted to schools, for the safety of the wider population. Do you also oppose that? You seem to have missed the "As punishment" part, which is an important factor. And you're honestly comparing vaccinating children to castrating rapists? The health benefits of vaccinating kids are one of the most settled issues I can possibly think of. Punishment of rapists by castration doesn't seem to serve as any sort of deterrent, and it's cruel and unusual punishment.

Quote:Prospective jurors told Judge Aaron Persky this week that they would not serve in a jury in his Santa Clara County Superior courtroom due to a lenient sentence given to former Stanford student Brock Turner.
The San Jose Mercury News reported on Thursday that at least 10 potential jurors spoke out during jury selection for an unrelated stolen property case.

What? No we don't, we just take away their license or put them in jail. And again, the chemical changes resulting from whatever withdrawal they might experience is not the punishment. The chemical changes that one experiences from being castrated is the punishment.

There's a very big difference between the two and if you reflect on it, I'm sure you notice.
Maybe it's because I'm coming from a part of the world where eugenics were all the rage for a pretty long period in time, but I'm certainly opposed to inflict irreversible damage to someone else's body.
A lesser known fact, Switzerland made what they considered imbeciles or irresponsible (mostly women) infertile up until the late 70ies. Against their will.

If you were locked up with 1,000 rapists how long do you think it would be before some raped you? After that would you still be against castration?

Yes, honestly if I went through that I would probably react pretty emotionally. However, as I said before, we don't have (and shouldn't have) a legal system based on emotional responses to situations.
"What if you were locked up with 1000 rapists?" Yeesh.

You may be right. Believe it or not, I do have a compassionate side myself. I just don't expose it often.
Maybe I am. I certainly feel like I'm right. Morality is extraordinarily subjective though.

They can choose to go to jail instead. I mean....they won't be getting alcohol there either.
I'd say there's a huge difference between a chemical alteration as a result of stopping doing something vs a chemical alteration as a result of forcing something to be done.
I don't know if you're playing devils advocate here. I always have a really hard time imagining there are people who really believe that physically harming someone is ever an acceptable form of punishment.

Subjective or not, logically speaking two wrongs do not entail a right. You are at least objectively correct about that.
