The new Star Trek

The new Star Trek
There will be a new Star Trek series next year -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXpPweAooeE

Are you looking forward to it? Do you know anything about it? Will it be based on the alternate timeline of the new movies (please no)? Will it follow several crews and ships as alluded to in the teaser?

This guy has some interesting speculations

It needs to be based in the originsl timeline after the events of DS 9 and Voyager.

No fucking retro Trek.
No fucking Abrams Trek
No fucking rewriting 50 years of established Trek history.

Of course, CBS will fuck it up.

I agree almost completely. I'd enjoy seeing some retro Trek, though, if they did it right this time, not like Enterprise.

Damn! 15 minutes talking about a 1 minute trailer.
The planets and sun in the trailer may be telling, like he claims.... could be from Praxis, or some other place... That planet looks little like the Praxis from ST-VI, that had half of it pulverized.... this one just looks hollow.
The sun is a sun... meh, can' tell much, if you ask me.

The "new crews" detail does seem important.
Thus far, we've had one crew, one ship.
While it could be like he says: one crew, one ship per season - different seasons, different ships and crews.... I'd say it's more likely that they'd explore different ships and crews simultaneously. The main character could be an Admiral organizing several ships to a particular goal. I could see an armada working together.
Or it could be something a bit like BattleStar Galactica, where a bunch of ships work together to a common goal.... hehe... like ST-VOY's return home.

The logo is interesting... that vertical stripe isn't present in most logos we know of...
But it is present on some future ones:
ST-TNG, "All Good Things":

ST-VOY, "The Visitor":

[Image: latest?cb=20060710025523&path-prefix=en]

From there, I think it's likely that we are finally moving forward...
ST-TNG, DS9 and VOY take place between 2364 and 3278. The logo I showed above features at around 2395. Maybe the one in this teaser is from in between... 2385?
If the name of the series is only Star Trek, then it can be safe to say that an Enterprise will feature as the main ship... Enterprise E?

I hear strong rumours that it will be an 'anthology' series, with each season taking place in a different era and following a different crew. From what I hear, it will definitely be taking place in the 'prime' timeline not the new one - which makes sense, given that Star Trek rights are split between CBS who control the TV side, and Paramount who oversee the movies. CBS are likely making the shrewd decision to make this new series align with its current properties.

All in all, I'm really looking forward to this. It's about damn time Smile

Meh, I don't really feel anything for official Trek since the Abrams fiasco. I'll take these guys any day:

http://www.startrekcontinues.com/

Authentic sets built exactly as the original studio layout, guest actors reprising their original rôles where appropriate, a William Shatner clone as Kirk, Grant "Mythbusters" Imahara as Sulu, Chris Doohan stepping into his father's engineer shoes, and a love for the project... this is how you boldly go.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

The two big "fan" productions (don't forget ST:New Voyages https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xtg4Y6FW...saQ74kcBLV) are absolutely great.

Geez, I hope they don't contradict any timelines! I'll switch off as quick as you can say "Enterprise"
