The UK and France beat us by making their walls first.

Nothing compared to what Trump is talking about building, and we still let everyone in anyway. We need a government that is tough on border control  and the Conservatives (sort of light Republicans is the best way to describe them) are just not up to the job at all.

We also need to place restrictions on travel from the Commonwealth.

Nicola Sturgeon said that plans to take the UK out of the EU's single market brought a second Scottish independence referendum "undoubtedly" closer.

The first minister was speaking after Prime Minister Theresa May outlined her government's thinking on Brexit.

Ms Sturgeon, in a BBC interview, agreed that another vote on independence was "all but inevitable".

She believed that Scotland should be able to choose a "different future" to the one outlined by Mrs May.

The Scottish government has repeatedly raised the prospect of a vote on independence if Scotland's membership of the single market was threatened by a so-called hard Brexit.

Other countries are "queuing up" to sign trade deals with the UK once it leaves the EU, Boris Johnson has said.

The foreign secretary also said the UK would not be "hauling up the drawbridge" despite new migration controls promised by Theresa May.

Mrs May set out her Brexit strategy - which includes pulling out of the EU single market - in a speech on Tuesday.

She also warned the EU not to try to "punish" the UK, saying she would walk away unless the right deal was offered.

Writing in the Daily Telegraph, Mr Johnson said: "We will no longer be part of the common commercial policy, or bound by the Common External Tariff, and we will no longer have our trade policy run by the EU commission.

"That means - crucially - that we will be able to do new free trade deals with countries around the world. They are already queuing up.

"Under EU rules, we are not formally allowed to negotiate these new treaties until we leave. But there is nothing to say that ideas cannot be pencilled in."

Brexiteers in warning to German business

The German economy will pay a "high price" if its leaders make life hard for the UK over Brexit, British pro-Leave campaigners are to warn.

John Longworth, co-chair of Leave means Leave, and ex-minister Owen Paterson will sound the warning at a major German business event on Saturday.

Britain will "walk away" if the deal is not right, Mr Longworth will say.

Theresa May has said it will be an act of "calamitous self-harm" for the EU to try and punish the UK for leaving.

The prime minister has said she wants the UK and the EU to be "good neighbours" in a constructive, new partnership after Brexit.

But she has warned that no deal will be better than a bad deal at the end of two years of negotiations - which are expected to start in April.

Mr Longworth, former British Chamber of Commerce director general, will echo these views at the Berlin event - attended by German ministers, business, academia and media.

"It is entirely sensible for businesses across the EU and Britain who wish to work and trade together to continue to do so and it would be helpful if the British and German governments, as well as key figures in the EU, work towards this goal," he will say.

"If the German Chancellor and EU leaders continue down the road of negativity and threats when negotiating with Britain, German business and the German economy will pay a high price."

We're first in line for a trade deal with the US and Trump is talking about large tariffs on German cars, so it's nice to see the Germans might finally get taught a lesson again.
