I'd like to reply to you in more depth but unfortunately I don't feel I have the time or energy at the moment (and that's after tapping out of that mafia game) Sad So I would have loved to discuss this in depth with you and really get involved in this thread, but I just just don't feel mentally up to anything at the moment  Sad But thanks for the food for thought... and I think we have very similar views on some of these issues, so I'd love to be able to talk to you about them some other time down the line when I'm feeling better Smile

I'm heading down to Florida for a week of relaxation anyway so yeah, we can pick this up later. This thread is really about Zen Buddhism anyway, so it's kind of a derail. A little bit.

I do think there's value in that kind of meditation if you're a phenomenology geek. Not that I don't think there can be some therapeutic value in it; I've had some insights to come from meditating that have helped me. I can see that as something that'll vary from person to person, though, and I haven't kept up with the state of research into it.

Anyway, I think meditation reinforces what Dennett's observed about consciousness: that explaining it isn't about explaining just one thing. It's a lot of explanations.

NP.

Now that that's out of the way you're free to meditate upon the particulars that define your particular brand of sub-consciousness.
