I would agree. Sort of. I don't feel comfortable, nor will I ever, with police officers being allowed to shoot a person they've got pinned down on the ground.

I'm sure we'll hear more details in the coming weeks. All I'd say is I think there's situations where there would be a justification to shoot someone you have on the ground. Bear in mind this guy was big, he was on his back (so he could see the officers), he was struggling, and he had a gun. If he were on his front, I would completely agree that the officers likely had no justification for shooting him, but you can do a lot more when you're on your back than you can when you're on your front.

Well when I heard about police executing two black men in consecutive days I thought to myself "we wouldn't tolerate that shit in Australia". If you ask me, following that incident the Louisiana State police force should have be deregulated, suspend all State police officers, and bring in police from across the border - Arkansas, Gulf of Mexico, and Mississippi. Then hold an inquiry where the suspended police force can make the case on an individual case-by-case basis as to why they should be allowed to return to work. They can then work alongside the other State police officers until they are deemed competent enough to run their own police force.

The Gulf of Mexico is not a state, and doesn't have a police force.

Never mind the fact that the Louisiana State Police weren't involved at all. Do you even fact?

Maybe some new angle will emerge that allows a different story, but for me, if you want to avoid getting shot by cops, don't resist arrest, even if you know you are innocent.

My heart is in Dallas right now. All of Texas is broken with the news of our LEO's passing. Ever since the blue lives matter thing started I've had the thin blue line across my back window on my truck. A lot of people have taken them off but I refuse to.

Clearly there are exceptions to the rule when you are dealing with a copy who is trigger happy.

My advice, which I have heard from numerous lawyers giving talks, is to ask permission to do anything before you do it. If the cop asks for your license, ask them "Can I get into my vehicle to get it?", don't just assume you can. Likewise, if the license is in your pocket, ask "Can I reach into my pocket to get my license?" before you do so.

Whilst we shouldn't have to do these things, the fact that cops get shot at by armed civilians makes them wary of any sudden movements, so always be wary of how any action may look to a cop.

As a separate addition to the thread. My wife and I went and delivered some coffee and donuts to our local police station this morning. They were very grateful for the support. If you have the time and money, go show your support of the police by doing something similar.

No sorry. nobody deserves to die, because our nation is to fucking lazy to put the money into better non lethal training. I see nothing in that that would warrant that shooting. It is training our cops to fear the worst and shoot first.
