Humanity: the set of homo sapiens sapiens. Unless you are a robot you are part of it.

The biggest change I'd like to see in Western society is in regard to how (other) animals are treated and valued.

I'd like to see all countries become properly secular and for religious preferential treatment to end.

Of course society has many other problems which have no easy solutions.

I think it's a very vague word which has a lot of meanings. I suppose literally it's humans, being human, or the "essence" of being human. That doesn't really say anything though.

I'd equate it with kindness and compassion in some uses of the word.

Growing up, were your parents or any of your family members or close friends religious?

My father's mother, his sister and her husband are all Christian. It was hardly ever mentioned. My aunt did force my cousin to go to church against his will. It had the opposite intended effect.

As far as I know, none of my friends were religious

Interesting, thank you. I've always viewed the British as less concerned with religion than us Americans. I wish the US were more secular. It gets tiresome listening to people bang on about religion all the time. AF is a great place to come to and get away from all that.

Yes, everywhere I've lived so far at least, religion has been irrelevant. No one has ever even asked me about atheism or religion. They've either assumed I'm an atheist, or they don't care either way. I'm sorry you have to put up with all the trying-too-hard theists mouthing off all the time. Hopefully it will become just as irrelevant in the near future. It appears to be getting there, with each new generation being less impressed with it.
