That's most definitely what I would have done. The thigh would have been lifted first and the lower leg flipped outwards. I wasn't very old but I had already done several years of Karate and classical Kung fu by that age where the kick was drilled over and over again.

Unless you do Wing Tsun. They have this front kick which is really difficult to explain, but basically the idea is that you can kick without your shoulders giving away your move. As with everything in Wing Tsun, it's like a spring action where the trigger gets released.
