So by your definition are you saying there are no beliefs, or activities held with in the study of science that is not important to any one person or group?

I'd also like to point out you only provided one definition of science... Why did you forgo the others? Could it be because they speak to strict belief disciplines and focused study???

Quick answer, for the same reason the smell of my farts aren't a religion.

Long answer, because science is a method of enqiring about the universe usin evidence to postulate theories and improving or discarding them as more or better evidence comes along (eg General Relativity replacing Newton's inverse square law to explain how gravity works). Religion is a method of convincing people that unevidenced assertions about the world are an unchangeable and immutable truth even when the evidence proves the assertions wrong (eg genesis and creatardism in general), and then using that brainwashing to exert power over the poor gullibles you've fooled.

There's really no reasoning with a person who has to resort to false equivalencies to lend respectability to his nonsense. Drich wants to pretend that people who base their worldviews on available evidence and who remain agnostic on questions that are unanswered or that cannot be answered are somehow on the same footing as people who point to an ancient book and say, "It's true because it says so here."

Of course, he's quick to dismiss people who point to the "wrong" book.
