There is a reason why we humans are not attracted to our own kin. Are these two consenting adults? Sure. Doesn't make it right though. She's still of child bearing age. Suppose she accidentally gets pregnant? Then what? You are aware that people don't always use protection, right?

But that's not even the point. This woman gave birth to this kid. He came out of her. In who's actual fucking right mind thinks the two of them having sex with each other is normal by any means? It's not. You may not like my opinion, and you may not agree with it, but I'm okay with that. It's not about me or you. It's about the fact that in this country, incest is against the law and they broke the law. And yes, what they did with each other IS gross.

What kind of rationale is this? You don't like it so they shouldn't be allowed to do it? So what if they use protection or not? It's none of your business

Technically it's none of ANYONES business but the thread was started and it is what it is. That's what I like about it here. The fact that we're all different and have the right to our own opinions is what makes this place great.

So then it may not be her fault at all but it is failed parenting if he didn't know her as a mother.

Failed parenting by whom?

Of course we all are that's the whole point to the conversation. Pretending you have more common sense than I do because of your opinion, on the other hand, is wrong (IMO). Your opinion is all fine and dandy until you start saying we should have laws based on it. We shouldn't. It doesn't matter what you think or what I think when it comes to the laws. Laws should be based on facts. The facts are that two consenting adults having sex are not harming anyone even if they're closely related. There's no real reason to have a law like this and if we are going to have the law, jail time as a punishment is extremely over the top.

Punishments in the US are the most draconic I know of in any western country apart from Singapore. I remember reading a story about a year ago, about a couple having sex on the beach. I didn't follow up what came of it, but back then they were indicted with sexual assault and faced a possible 20 years stretch in prison. In Europe you're sent anway with a slap on your wrist and a 100 Euro fine. Or being branded a sexual offender for taking a piss in the streets. Really?

The stigma attached to this is very interesting. If they want to live as filthy degenerates, and shock and horrify people with their openly public show of physical affection for one another, then they really should expect something in the way of community backlash. But that said, as degenerated as it may well be I don't see a public benefit in criminalising their relationship.

The WIN/Gallup End of Year Survey 2013 found the US was perceived to be the greatest threat to world peace by a huge margin, with 24% of respondents fearful of the US followed by: 8% for Pakistan, and 6% for China. This was followed by 5% each for: Afghanistan, Iran, Israel, North Korea. -LINK

Yes, when both sexual partners are closely related, even more so when the relation is in the first degree (parent and child or brother and sister). The fact of the matter is that incest does make it far more likely that children of such a union will have genetic defects that will either make their lives harder or kill them than would normally be the case for children of unrelated persons (unrelated to a reasonable degree, you're not going to get two people who don't share a common ancestor somewhere).

Can you support this with hard data in the form of numbers? If you're going to say "far more likely", I'd like to see percentages, myself.

Read my link. I gave you hard data.

You needn't have bothered. I posted a link which provided the same data, but he was too busy sticking his fingers in his ears and shouting "la la la, I am not listening" to look at it.

He addressed that data, then.

It's institutional puritanism.  For all the discussion of personal freedom being paramount in America, that means "the freedom to do what I, the community, and god want you to do" rather than the freedom to do what you want to do.

Don't worry, my friend.  If this be the end, then so shall it be.

And my critique of that study, given above, still stands.

No, I was on my phone, and didn't see that you'd embedded a link. When Cap put up the same link, I was on my laptop and read the article straightaway.

Thanks for giving me a little insight into you, though. Now I know I'm dealing with a cunt who's happy to not only use a broad brush, but also make uncharitable assumptions in order to boost his own ego.
