As far as child abuse goes, Ireland was hell on earth in the 70ies. Near theocracy back then with the Catholic church running virtually every aspect of life. Look up the Irish history of foster homes.

I'd think the financial peril these pedo priests are subjecting the church to would be POWERFUL inducement for the church poobahs to at least consider making child sexual abuse a sacrament. Hell the protestants can remarry divorced persons in a church with full honors these days, seems like the catholics could learn a lesson there . . . .
The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
