Yeah that's fair enough. I watched the Redlettermedia reviews of the TNG films and it ruined it for me
 I remember as a kid watching first contact and loving it, but it was probably because of the phasers and the shooting and the pew pew. I'm too cynical now

I was at the German festive premiere of first contact (I think we even had a live feed to some astronauts, and Brent Spiner was there and LeVar Burton, so I have a lot of nostalgic feelings concerning #8

It was a strong movie in its own right, intriguing murder mystery, good sociopolitical commentary and some nice action. Also, despite its abject badness I cannot hate the Search for Shatner's Ego (V) for two reasons, 1) it gives us Star Trek's best lin "What does god need with a starship?" and 2) it was my gateway to the franchise, the first I saw of Trek.
