Favorite Long Song
We all have favorite songs, but I want you to think of a really long song, at least 6 minutes (The longer the better) that whenever it plays you have to listen to it. Most songs are between 3-5 minutes, but there are those long classics that you never ever get tired of listening to the whole way through. You can't pick just any long song you like, has to be one you will always listen to in full if you can. (Comes on the radio in the car, on your playlist, etc...) and you won't turn off or skip through before it's done.

My song is "Won't Get Fooled Again" by the Who. It stands at just over 8 minutes, and I just love the guitar in it.

I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) - Meat Loaf.

Comes in at 12:01 on Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/track/4UrgDocbHywDZv2f3mBhCq and is in my opinion, an epic rock song.

"Bat Out Of Hell" is another great one of his, coming in at 9:50.

I remember that being on a list for top 100 worst songs, and the reason was because no one knew what "that" was. At least that's what I remember. Saw it years ago.

Apparently it's just the way the song is worded: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I%27d_Do_An....22that.22

Still, ambiguous or not, it's a great song Big Grin

Not exactly a "song" in the strict definition of the term-- nevertheless: The third movement of Beethoven's 15th string quartet (op. 132), which usually runs about 15 minutes. Once it starts, its hard for me to let go. I rarely listen to rock or jazz these days...

I suppose if I were to pick an actual rock song, I've always found the Velvet Underground's "Sister Ray" mesmerizing and devastating:

(part I)

(part II)

[edited to add part II of "Sister Ray"]

RE: Favorite Long Song
Most of my favourite songs are probably 8-12 minutes long. One of my favourite songs is 24 minutes.

My favourite songs tend to be longer.

Any music I love I will buy and any such music I will always hear to the end.

The two parter 24 minute song "Out There Somewhere?" By Orbital I've never failed to hear it to the end, and I've been listening to it for years now. I've heard it countless times.

Ok here's some songs I love that are above 6 mintues that I would never turn off till they got to the end:

Some Orbital:

Ok, that's enough Orbital, there's too many long Orbital songs to list. Most of them are long.

Ok some Underworld now:

Ok now some Leftfield:

Some Future Sound of London:

Two Tool songs:

And I'll be adding some more stuff later, I gotta go now.

This is unfortunately overplayed in recent years, but it's still an epic song.

Well, "that" is several things. In order:
*forget the way you feel right now
*forgive myself if we don't go all the way tonight
*do it better than I do it with you
*stop dreaming of you every night of my life
*Move on.
*Screw Around.

Back to the thread, All of the Bat out of Hell albums (particularly the first and second ones, especially the second, the third less so, Meat's version of "It's All Coming Back To Me" excepted) would probably qualify.

Non-Steinman songs would include:
*Macarthur Park (Richard Harris)
*Roundabout (Yes)
*Foreplay/Long Time (Boston). Yes, it's probably technically two songs, but since they're usually played together, they might count.
*Svefn-g-englar (Sigur Ros)
*Blasphemous Rumors (Depeche Mode)
*My Favorite Things (John Coltrane)
*Pick a Pink Floyd song. Any Pink Floyd song.
*Maggot Brain (Funkadelic)
*21st Century Schizoid Man (King Crimson)
*Daddy (Korn)
*Hallogallo (Neu!)
*PEnguin Cafe SIngle (Penguin Cafe Orchestra)
*Marquee Moon (Television)
*Heroin (Velvet Underground)
*Sister Ray (Velvet Underground)
*Murder Mystery (Velvet Underground)

Yes, my taste in music really is eclectic.
