RE: What God is to the Universe is what your mind is to your body

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that the two options above do not represent the full field of possibility.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Well then add to the list!
What I'm saying is either way, damage to the brain will interfere with both signal generation or reception.

That's not what you were saying..it's what you -meant- to say, apparently. No disagreement from me there, either of those two ways. I think Benny might be able to suggest, from his viewpoint, that the -minds- ability to to receive or generate a signal may not -necessarily- be interfered with by damage to the -brain - provided that mind and brain are not the same thing, or necessary to each other. If mind is, in fact, intrinsic to the qm fields, the universe...what have you. The mind may have no trouble generating or receiving a signal, even if some sort of bodily interference or malfunction is detected...the body (or brain) has difficulty -responding- to it.

If you could reduced consciousness down to it's most basic necessary component, what would you identify as that component?

Interaction. There must be some way to be conscious -of- something....for there to be consciousness in the first place. The term, otherwise, has no meaning.

Indeed:
Why do so many people insist on missing this? (rhetorical)
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

What if the universe is a big mind that's actually thinking our thoughts, not we ourselves... man far out Duuuude.

Well hey. It was pointed out when we finally got a 3D image of the visible universe, it did kinda resemble a neural network.

Galaxies forming a big brain? This is the kind of idea where you regret not being high...

This is a horrible misapplication of concept of evidence.
The fact that brain damage results in mental changes is not evidence of the interlinkage of the two? Am I reading you right? It sounds like you are asking a question about psychology, and not about psychogony. We know that if you change brain function, the qualitative nature of experience changes. What we do not know is at what level the most elemental componenets of mind emerge-- if they emerge at all.
