Step parents are awesome. I am one myself and try very hard to be a good stepmother to my stepsons. Sometimes I'll call them my sons, here in the forums (and IRL) because I love them as if they were my own blood. They have two sisters (my girls) they adore. I love that for the most part, they all get along. My house and my heart are full.
I got no doubt you're a great mom, N. From my own experiences I (and you, no doubt from yours) understand that love is thicker than blood, and proverbs aside, we can choose our own family.
I appreciate your sympathy, but I'm not sorry at all I went through it ... better a mistake corrected early than followed through, haunting me for life. Though I experienced little of my life as the child of a single mother, my mom's strength and determination in taking what was in 1969 still a pretty drastic step commands not only my respect, but my deepest gratitude. She kept her eye on the ball and put us kids first, and Devil take the hindmost.

Yah, definitely seemed out of character for him. Maybe having daughters has biased him on the subject a bit. I guess I could understand that.
