Especially for Christinaity, the bigoted bile directed at homosexuals is entirely disproportionate to its representation in the bible. Many, many things are mentioned far more often, and Christians wouldn't think twice about ignoring them. 

That's because these people would have been homophobes anyway, they just get to use the Bible as an excuse. If social conservatives hated shrimp, they'd be using the line against eating shellfish as an excuse too.

Homosexuality poses a game changing problem for both patriarchy and controling female sexuality. Both of which are the major activities of religion.

In my heart you know I respect and understand homosexuality in men. Yet, regardless of what my mind and heart understand, my body and my hormones will still respond to an attractive gay man the same way they would to a straight man.

Imagine how threatening this is for a woman who has no understanding and thinks homosexuality is just a preference. If she’s been raised like so many women to think her worth as a woman depends on her ability to catch a man, gays pose a special challenge.

For a straight man who has been raised to think of sex as an expression of dominance and special male privilege over women, the idea of men with men blurs the lines they’ve been raised to think of as solid.

When I was a Christian, I was certainly as bigoted as the majority of them were. My parents raised me to be against homosexuality and our church backed up their sentiments. For many, going along with bigotry is just the way you get accepted in your social group. It's a good thing I started thinking for myself, because I am what I used to hate. My new social group lets me be myself.

It would seem that it does not bode well for a person if god hates them. Eternal torment actually.

I don't believe in god, you believe in him though.
I acknowledge the existence of his ideology. But he never showed himself.
