Why are you Against Homosexuality (to theists)

The OP insinuated that all Christians hate homosexuals.  Typical of the BS that I see here.  You guys lumping us all together.  If I said something all inclusive about atheists, the forum would unleash hell on me for doing so.  

First, OP is 12 and so I usually hold back a little, unless they say something fundamentally obnoxious or stupid. Secondly, you have to make a distinction between the religious doctrines and religious people. The holy books of all three major religions contain passages against homosexuality and virtually ask for the death and damnation of gay people. I'm certainly the last person to say every last christian, muslim or jew are doing, acting or even believing in their books to the last letter. But the can of wirms is opened, since the written word is the law for certain people, who go out of their way to at least discriminate against certain groups of people and even go so far as to preach hatred and at least insinuate taking violent actions.

The OP question would have been better phrased in asking, why is your religion, your god against homosexuality. But the christian god, only to give the example I'm most familar with, is against many things. Things not even literalists follow through on. Virtually on the same page as the passage on homosexuality is the damnation of eating shellfish, shaving one's hair or beard, wear cloth of different fabrics and a few other so called divine laws called abominations in the eyes of god.

So the question is valid, why homosexuality is singled out by quite a number of religious people.

I certainly don't assume anything about a particular Christian. I let them tell me whatever it is they personally believe.

Some people over generalise, sure. But it's just as bad to over generalise atheists as being over generalising. If you get my drift.

I'm extremely generous. I don't even assume a Christian worships Christ, or Yahweh. I might assume a few things are likely, but as far as I'm concerned, they can believe whatever the fuck they want. If they say they're a Christian, then they are one.

I've come to the conclusion, based on what ScienceAF has said (for example, that he's bisexual, and that Little Rik is a dick), that he is almost certainly not 12. Is he someone's family member, or just a poster claiming to be 12? Cuz I'm not buying it.

As I said, it's from my interpretation of what is to be. It's not what I would wish on anyone. There is a difference I think.

Pete, you need to understand that we atheists (not all of us; some are more charitable than others) tend to lump you guys together because you are literally PROGRAMMED by your religion to say certain things at certain points in a discussion, like an algorithm.

We hear it over, and over, and over; predictable to the point of absurdity. It becomes robotic over time, and your last post is a PERFECT example of a commonly visited branch on the 'Christian debates atheist' algorithm: 'Christian gets frustrated with overwhelming push back; threatens hell.' Check. The hell-threat thing is SO overused around here that it's practically a cliche.

You are painting yourself as a caricature without even realizing it. You don't want to be treated like a hive mind? Then don't ACT like one. Throw us a curve ball. Be willing to participate in an honest discussion about your beliefs without running back to the bible for instructions on what to say next. And, if you aren't interested in discussions that challenge your beliefs then frankly, this might not be the right forum for you, because they WILL be challenged regardless of whether or not you are interested in participating. I don't want to repeat the details of the private conversation I had with Pete because I do respect privacy, but I am now lumping Pete in with the other anti-LGBT religious bigots. Sorry Pete. I can't really respect your position like I originally intended and I will have to agree with the others here. Everything said will be kept between us though.

I'm still not generalizing Christians because I know too many others who are better about this. They can get past their preconceptions so they get to be my friends.
