Where was the fallacy made?
In my case, I hadn't thought about the details at first. I was too busy laughing at the pic :p Evf (vs FvE). Lol.
Richard Dawkins is a smart man.
Richard Dawkins is an atheist. Therefore, atheists are smart people. Jessica Simpson is a not smart person. Jessica Simpson is a theist. Therefore, theists are not smart. These arguments are implied by the images, and are clear examples of an association fallacy.
I agree with meatball and was thinking similar thoughts. However, it's only a bit of fun
BUT HITLER WAS AN ATHEIST
Knowing this, I feel a sudden urge to go on a killing spree.
I see what you're saying there, and you're certainly right to make the point (except I don't think Hitler actually was an atheist?). (December 20, 2008 at 5:51 pm)Meatball Wrote: BUT HITLER WAS AN ATHEIST Ah but Hitler was a smart man.

Of course just simply showing atheists who happen to be smart doesn't mean all atheists are smart. I never said that. And if it appears to implying that doesn't mean it does.... If it implies intelligence in your view...how do you go from it suggesting than atheists tend to be smart to ALL atheists are smart? And atheists tend to be less smart to ALL theists are stupid? And I don't buy into that....I just look at MENSA study set over several years and think there might be something in it. On AVERAGE. Lol Meatball. Hitler probably wasn't an atheist. And even IF he was...he didn't do the things he did because of being skeptical about religion and not believing in God. I reckon its more to do with his Nazism, f**ked up beliefs about controling people (more like a dogmatic political religion than atheism) and basically about dogma...That... and the fact he was deeply evil! Evf
I had trouble understanding your post, but I did manage to salvage that you completely missed my sarcasm in the last post.
I'm just saying that low-brow comics like this aren't helping attract any intelligent posters who might have some worthwhile points to interrupt our little circle-jerk.
Yeah, its sarcasm. But I still wanted to say something on the subject....
Just as you did about the images I see your point though. Even if it is humour, I guess its still a fallacy. Could I even say that even though you were being sarcastic about Hitler. The statement itself without the sarcasm is still incorrect? Lol Yeah good point, I'll just say I wanted to say something about the incorrectness of your humour if people couldn't spot the sarcasm, just as you wanted to say something about incorrectness in the images, if people couldn't spot the erros I like talking about things. If it was a joke and not a sarcastic statement such as that - that some may even think is true - I would have probably just laughed or ignored it. Or both I wanted to answer to your statement Sorry for being a killjoy lol. Guess its because the sentence taking literally was probably incorrect Same difference here perhaps? Evf |
