If you're not supposed to ride faster than your guardian angel can fly then mine had better get a bloody SR-71.

My favorite version

That's an interesting recording (the added brass gives it a different feel)-- I prefer it at a slower tempo like that myself. Jean-Francois Paillard did two recordings of it-- one of those two is my personal favorite (recorded in the mid 60s I think?). With only a few exceptions, I prefer HIP recordings ("historically informed performance") for early classical-- Paillard's recording being one of those blatantly obvious exceptions (and for purely nostalgic reasons).

Brian Eno did a gorgeous deconstruction of the piece in 1975 (from "Three Variations on Pachelbel's Canon in D" on Discreet Music):

The individual parts are rhythmically augmented, drifting apart, disintegrating. For myself, this evokes an intense heartbreaking sadness.

Zen, that's not the version I was looking for, but that is a great version. The one I am looking for is faster.

Frodo, it was nice of you to find the original. Tongue

I love Requiem for a Dream. I used to blast that song. My poor roommate got tired of it.

I can't believe I didn't add this with the Beethoven stuff.

Debussy's The Afternoon of a Faun always brings a tear to my eye (particularly by the 5:30 minute mark in this particular recording):
