Especially when so little thinking is actually needed where alleged gods are concerned.

They're all good at their real jobs. Let people think for themselves instead of rallying behind the next wayward flag. That's the beauty of atheism.

almost as easy as rejecting everything in favor ones religion.
Be it atheist or theist.

Guess thats why some need these "ministers".

I'm not part of any movement. Indeed, one of the main aspects of religion that I've never understood is the desire to be a part of a hierarchical organization.

I don't play well with others a lot of the time. I value my independence. And I take a long, hard look at anyone attempting to assert authority over me, especially if they claim to represent me or my interests.

I don't have 'atheist leaders'.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

It's fine if a bunch of smart people want to sit around and discuss why jesusism is bullshit.

The evidence for the whole story is so pitiful that it seems like overkill.

I put it quotes for a reason.  Look, the rationalist/atheist movement is a "very tiny, tiny, tiny fraction" of the energy of the religious movements out there, even the wacko fundamentalist ones.  While I, in essence, agree with all the comments in this thread (and, find this forum to be vastly superior to the online stuff from the atheist "greats" out there), still, I think that it is a good thing that organizations such as American Atheists exist and that they have an outreach program to believers who are considering trashing their bullshit beliefs.

By the way, I would have come to atheism a long time ago if the Internet had existed back in the '80s.  "If I only knew then what I know now..." is what I tell those few individuals who are interested in why I deconverted.

P.S. I should have put "leaders" in quotations as well! Thanks everyone for pointing that error out to me.
