Would you rather navigate a maze a) blindfolded, but knowing there's a great big prize at the end, or b) not blind-folded, and the only prize is finding your way out?

Blindfolded would be kind of interesting. I mean, maybe there's walls to touch?

Gas chamber or electric chair (to die in)?

Electric chair... it might even be a buzz (pun intended)... who knows but maybe one quick hallucinogenic trip and you're gone. Better that I think that than probably suffocating or whatever with gas.

Death by jumping into lava or jumping into acid?

Lava's always held a strange fascination and fear for me because there are so many different films depicting in different ways what would happen if you fell/walked/were lowered into it; in King Solomon's Mines people fall into it and are obliterated in a burst of flame before they even touch it, in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, people burst into flame before they touch it but not as quick, in Terminator 2 - though that's not lava per se but molten steel - his hair doesn't burn until he's deep under and it touches the surface, and then in I think it's called Volcano with Tommy Lee Jones, there's a train in a subway full of lava and a guy has to run through it, burning as he goes, to get out. I'm thinking that would probably be the most accurate but I really have no idea what would realistically happen so that's why it's particularly terrifying. So based on that uncertainty I'd probably choose the acid because at least then I'd have a rough idea of what was going to happen.

Ooh, yours is a tough question... to be alone or to be alone... that is the question The latter I think. Both would be isolated but at least in the latter you could people-watch and continue to be reminded of humanity.

The first definitely... quality over quantity. But my ideal goes even further back than that to zero people living a phenomenally conscious life... because all conscious life is suffering IMO... so my ideal is a world of philosophical zombies... the non-existence of phenomenal consciousness.

Bah, that depends, Alex. Is this the Mars where Elon Musk is the symbolic leader of a terraformed planet, where direct democracy is implemented and people lead lives you only read about in award-winning science-fiction novels?

I mean there'd be a lag time communicating with earth, that'd be the only down-side in the long run, but who'd care about Earth at that point anyway. The prospect of living on a new world is way more exciting than doing crazy shit on a restricted island.
