Why does the logic of "if it makes you happy, go for it" get tossed out the window when it comes to theists who's faith brings them happiness? Who are happy when they go to church, pray, sing together, believe, etc?
Some food for thought.
Live and let live =/= ban on criticism and critique.
If you air your ideas about your beliefs in the real world, expect people to talk back. The fact there is even a discussion about the subject of virtual girlfriend's online (if they do harm anyone it could be argued it is only be the person indulging in it, which can't often be said of religious faith) is surely testament to that, no?
This. I might be completely mistaken, but I also get the feeling she's referring to me (based on some of the wording).
Just in case, I have no problem with people (including CL) believing in anything that makes them happy. That's never been my issue with her specifically.

Why did you ignore the rest of the statement I made, CL?
Go ahead and believe. But follow those rules.

It's easier, for some, to accuse someone directly or indirectly of imagined hypocrisy or inconsistency (or just about any other bit of shit one wants to sling) than it is to own up to the reality of religious asshattery, or the legitimacy of criticism applied to the same.

You mean the ones where you listed your "rules?"
Some I agree with, some I don't. Don't think it's productive to get into a discussion of what you consider ok and not ok for me to do.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

Not referring to anyone in particular, as I honestly can't remember who it was that said what in this thread. Just something I've noticed throughout the forum in general and is not specific to this thread. Though as I said, does not apply to everyone, but it is something I have seen.
I'm glad you don't have a problem with people being religious.

I've never shied away from the reality of what some religious nutbags do. I call it for what it is as well as you. I only ask that not everyone who calls them self a believer or religious person not by default have their views assumed because of the beliefs/actions of the fringe. Do you also believe all people who identify as Muslim are terrorists and view everyone in America as infidels? My entire point is you were taking the actions/views of some and applying the entire connotation to anyone who self describes as "religious".
We are not made happy by what we acquire but by what we appreciate.
