I've just always wondered though what use it would be if you can only write short posts... I mean what can you say in 50 characters? If you don't mind me asking, what do you use it for? As compared to say facebook or here?

140 characters.

You can actually say quite a lot, and if need be, make multiple posts (obviously).  Tongue

Oh right. Okay, I'll have a peek Wink And then maybe a tweet Big Grin

Don't suppose you know anything about the company that runs it do you? I mean, are the going the same way as Facebook... fingers in every pie and no regard for users other than their value as a target for advertising?

At least I suppose it ports well to its apps because apps always have to simplify/minimise the content so if it's already minimal on the site then the apps are probably quite a good reflection of the main site?

It's slightly better than FB when it comes to privacy IMO.

But it's still a social media site. If you're that worried about privacy, don't use it.

I've got the app on my phone. It's good enough and does the job.

Can't ask for more than that.

Nah, I'm not particularly worried about the privacy aspect - at least from an 'operational' point of view... it's just the way of the world now... if someone can make millions off feeding adverts to people that they never click on then good luck to them Big Grin - it's just more about how these monopolies are coming into being; Google, Amazon, Facebook etc. I don't like that, but at the same time I know they're all responsible and (generally) transparent with their privacy policies. I just don't like these 'ecosystems' that can lock you in so given the choice I'd prefer to go with companies that stay what they started as. Says me... someone who buys pretty much everything from Amazon Wink Blush but wherever I see them trying to lock you in, that's where I start to resist and not buy whatever they're offering on principle. Prime is a good example of that... lock you in to all the digital stuff, some of it exclusive, to make you dependent on them. So even in Netflix, which I do use, I'm wary about watching any of their exclusive content. But thankfully I think I'm pretty good at dropping things on demand, so I think it wouldn't be a major problem to break any dependence on any of these companies. Like with Prime, it does offer the walking dead, and I was keen to watch that, but overall I just decided 'sod it', it's not that important... and it's not... it's just a (usually depressing) TV programme Wink

But don't post boobs. That's really bad and will be removed instantly.

We have common ground.

That, and I've managed to reconnect with some friends I haven't seen in nearly 25 years.

I'll unfollow people at the drop of a hat, though.

Twitter doesn't have pop-up ads or anything like that, but they do have promotional tweets. You can block the account and never see tweets from that company again. That's about it.

I added facebook mails to my spam list in outlook. I'm not interested if someone took a shit on a sunday, what someone is digesting right now or in the constant reminders of how very absent I have been from all the fun going on there lately. The only reason why I still haven't deleted my account is me needing it for work.
