Ah, but many folks who were 'in the choir' too didn't like HIS take on Christianity and thought he was a heretic.

I'm in a couple of groups Jack went after and the concatenation of that with other Christers frowning upon him is hysterical.


I also note the possibility jack was a Poe, a thought almost too delicious to contemplate. The reality is probably more along the lines of Joe Smith perhaps, he wound up starting something that took off in a big way, and rode it to the end, regardless of his original motivations and goals.

Jack was totally convinced (and convincing?*) ALL Catholics were evil and going to hell. His anti-Catholcism was the stuff of legends.

Even so, he's entitled to his beliefs just like anyone else.

The irony of people flaming a certain forum member for lacking empathy, yet THEIR lack of empathy is fine as long as it's towards someone who believes differently.

What's also catching me off guard is that most of these folks are supposedly against the dp. Yet act happy when someone dies? 

You'll find that some people tend to take whatever position is convenient for their argument. For example, in a discussion on morality, a certain person states:

Law and order has betrayed me several times over. Even so, I still hold onto my morals because I would rather do what is right and set a good example for my children, despite the wrong that was done to me.

As for whether or not I would remain I would remain moral - if you are asking whether or not I would kill someone for my own survival, I can't honestly answer that. I have never killed anyone and don't know what that feels like.

I suppose if it meant shoving one of my children out of harms way and bearing the brunt of that harm, possibly getting killed in the process, then I don't believe I would be compromising my morals because I would be trying to protect my child. And I would do whatever was necessary achieve that.

All in all, it depends on the scenario. If my children were somewhere safe and all I had to do was worry about myself, I probably would die. Killing just doesn't seem to be an option.

Yet in a completely different thread the very same person states:  

"And yeah, I don't commit murder because I AM afraid of the death penalty. That and I obey the laws because Prison Orange isn't my color. I have a list of five people who I would happily off right now if I knew that I could get away with it. So your argument is invalid."

Bottom line is, this thread is just exposing those lacking in morals, and have no business hopping on any moral high horse in the future.

One of the reasons why I didn't participate in this thread so far. I didn't know the guy when he was alive, but I didn't even rejoice over Thatchers demise although I despised that crone with a vengeance. It may be different when someone is still in power and does incredible damage to the world. Not the rejoicing part but the sympathy part for some assassination attempt. Hitler would have been such a figure, Stalin too, maybe some others.

Agreed.

I find it appropriate to feel a sense of relief and gratitude when a very dangerous person dies in a war - such as Hitler, Bin Laden, and Stalin. But never happy celebration.
