I was ok with people believing whatever stupid thing they wanted. Then 9/11 showed me what a suitably motivated theist could do.

Take your beliefs, and take away the idea that the figure you believe in is a god. Do your beliefs still make sense?

Willful ignorance. That's what I hate.
I neither hate religious organizations nor denominations thereoff. It's what you make of it that brings on my opposition or tolerance. If religious groups do their worst to spew hatred against others for whatever reasons, they can be assured of my contempt. If they are just church goers, not bothering anyone else by shoving what they believe to be true everyone's throat, they can be sure of my support.
Same is true for any other religion of course. There is no monopoly on christianity for me.

Strictly speaking, both are immoral positions to hold, IMO, but one more defensible than the other.
I disagree. Imposing your own conception of conscience upon others by banning their own expression of it is hardly a moral act, especially once you consider the bloodshed that would necessarily accompany such a measure.
Would you imprison believers? Explain that in terms of morality: not only stripping them of the freedom of conscience, but stripping them of physical freedom, when they've done nothing else criminal.
