In a way everything is information. A piece of rock is shifted by a river. From looking at the rock I can tell that the rock is washed down from up stream. So the position of the rock held information that I was able to interpret. No creature had any hand in the movement of the rock. You see your statement depends on your definition of information.

Yeah, I'm sure "information" has nothing to do with language or the feeble attempts of one species to describe what it observes.  "Information" is right there in the world in itself apparently.  Better yet, why not turn it around.  "In the beginning was the word", except that it wasn't.

The title of the thread is "Information always arises from intelligence"

This is very different from "Information only arises from intelligence".

Intelligence has two diferent meanings in english. In German it's easy, intelligence is tied to the mental capacities of an individual. In english it's also the gathering of information. So this can be misleading at a very basic level. Maybe I subconsciously misunderstood the question entirely, maybe I overestimate the sophistication of the OP.

Good point. I hadn't even considered the second usage of the word intelligence.

I was just assuming that the OP was trying to argue for intelligent design somehow.

Awww... I hadn't noticed that his username is Goomba! Big Grin

Given that he doesn't have an avatar, this is now his official face (because I say so):

On a side not, you're starting to give the experience of baiting/trolling. Why don't you present your own views in that thread spree you're on instead of just posting oneliner questions.

Apart from that, it's got nothing to do with that. As I said in a different thread. I met the wisest people amongst the least educated (intelligent?) people and I met the most despicable amongst the highly educated (intelligent?) people. Not mutual exclusive and interchangeable.

Education doesn't equal intelligence , abaris, just as one's character is not one's intelligence .

or does it?

Judging from what had to be passed off as "information" arising from the American intelligence about Iraq, I would say no.

Intelligence trades in information, it doesn't exclusively produce it however.
