As our favorite Catholic Lady, the occasional doctrinal or Biblical citation might be helpful though. Even a reminisce from catechism class.

Illuminating how your faith has shaped and nurtured your positions as opposed to just voicing an opinion might help us more.

A bit off from the current discussion track, but relevant to the OP. What are the typical professions that Bible studies folks end up in? I'd expect something in theology/philosophy in an academic setting, but I'm curious to see if I'm missing something.

...And that is why I am ethically opposed to IVF. Because that's a human life. Whether or not you go to jail depends on the law. It's legal, so no. I doubt you would have done that if it was an illegal thing to do.

You dodged the question, but I'll rephrase to make it clearer.  Do you personally believe my wife and I deserve to go to jail, regardless of the law?

But the law does play a role bc it effects people's culpability. As far as you're concerned you did nothing wrong and the law agrees. I do not think people like you should go to jail. I do not think you are a bad person or a criminal. 

A more appropriate question would be whether I think it should be illegal to discard very young human beings conceived through IVF. And the answer to that is yes, I do. I think IVF should be done and handled in a way that is more in line with respecting the life of the individual. Being adopted out would be a much more ethical option imho. For those who choose to ignore the law and treat their IVF offspring in a way that is disrespectful to his/her life, yeah, I believe they should go to jail.

Don't mistake christian colleges with bible colleges. Here's what wiki says about bible colleges and though I don't buy every line coming from wiki, this is my understanding as well.

They're more or less training pastors. It's just theology according to the denominational understanding. Nothing broader than that.

The main reason I joined was to gather insight into the question I posted on another forum: about how science proves that the miracles of the Bible did not happen. That was for an assignment, and I wanted to understand the argument better.

Yes! There is a course about world religions, and I've studied various worldviews. The arguments are given for all sides, but with the focus being on the Christian worldview. Professors generally explain opposing world views, but continue to show the ways they are inadequate to explain the world we live in.

Do they bother to explain the inadequacies of the religion they profess as well? If not, you're getting a biased and imbalanced education.

Ugh. It's tempting not to use the story of my son who died at 23 weeks gestation when I see comments like these....

I feel like I would be exploiting him and his situation if I did, but at the same time I feel like it's important testimony of how very precious and very human a little unborn baby is. I could not see him the day that I delivered him because I was careful to protect my heart that day. But my husband did see him and hold him and took pictures of him before we sent him off to be cremated. He took some pictures of him and I finally saw those pictures about a month later when I was ready. He had his dad's nose. We named him Joseph and I'm telling you that he is/was very much a person.
