Updates on the election for those of us...
RE: Updates on the election for those of us...
I saw the news when I woke up this morning, at least Britain wont be alone having the rest of the world laugh at us after brexit.
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups

Arguing with an engineer is like wrestling with a pig in mud ..... after a while you realise that the pig likes it!

Good luck with that.

Well, you can blame the American voters for that. We Europeans don't exactly have much choice other than sit back and see what happens. I do understand your concerns though.

I'm not blaming anyone really, except those supporters and members of the two parties who managed to nominate two spectacularly unpopular candidates and pit them against each other.

Looks like we're in agreement then.

From our perspective, I'm most worried about what happens to European security when the US hint at dropping their support for NATO. Now would have been the time to have a strong unified Europe speaking with one voice both to Russia and the US, but whether that works with Brexit under way... Or were you hoping to wiggle through as some kind of transatlantic appendix of the US?

Fun fact, the Canadian website for Immigration crashed right after the results rolled in. Seems as if too many Americans looked for a plan B.

Quote:The Government of Canada's immigration website crashed on Tuesday night as the US election results were rolling in.

The site went down about 10:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday, and there was intermittent accessibility after that.

I'm thinking the EU, at least , should prepare to become a single political unit.

You can still do all that without Britain. Personally? I don't want my country provoking Russia anymore than we already are.

I'm blaming the American education system and the people who stood by and let it be run into the ground for years at a time.

And in response to Alex K and Pandemonium about why I won't step foot in America now. There are a number of reasons:

1) I don't trust it. What with its gun culture, flawed justice system and propensity to lock people up and throw away the key, add to that a fascist movement seizing power and their existing system of mass surveillance and demonisation of certain minorities and non-Americans, this opens up a whole plethora of nightmare scenarios. In the same way I wouldn't go to other theocracies such as Dubai, Pakistan or Iran. Sure each risk is extremely small, but why take the chance?

2) America will be a very different place in less than a year's time.

3) I don't want my money to go into the American economy.

4 states raise minimum wage. 6 states legalize weed. Then we vote Trump in by a landslide. The mind wobbles!
