How do UK atheists feel about the Monarchy?

Going from statistics;
85% of the population support the Monarchy.
48.5% of the population identify as Atheists.
So even if all republicans are atheists their outnumbered about 2:1 by royalist atheists.

I would like to see the monarchy phased out over time, but not forcibly overthrown and executed in a violent revolution or anything like that. But it is quite clear that the majority support the monarchy, and a civil war is the last fucking thing we need.

I respect Queen Elizabeth II - seriously.  The woman has borne a huge burden with class her entire life.  Sure, she never has to worry about
where to live and picking up groceries for dinner, but she didn't get to choose.  She isn't actually "free".

What burden? Yes I know her family are a bunch of inbred idiots, but that's her own fault for marrying a man her cousin twenty times over.

She doesn't have to work a day in her life, is above the law, has everything done for her and never known any form of want or displeasure.

People enjoy a good straw man.

However I agree with you. I'm a republican through and through and would like to see an elected head of state, but with opinion polls consistently showing overwhelming support for the monarchy, they won't be gone in mine or your lifetimes.

That'll change about five days after Brian inherits. And frankly neither of his sons are much better for those monarchists pinning their hopes on a generation being skipped.

Not from the UK and not a monarchist - I think Republic is a superior form of government but a constitutional monarchy is OK as long as the rulers don't have any effective political power. As far as I'm concerned, in the UK they say that the queen reigns but does not rule.

As long as the royal family doesn't have any political power and they basically exist as puppets that represent the State I'm ok with that, unfortunately the only viable way to replace a monarchy with a republic is with a revolution. Mainstream politicians simply aren't up for a referendum to change society's fundamental form of government.

Might be rather why Elizabeth takes the monarchy so seriously, her folks had put their own lives on the line for it.
