Honor between soldiers/fighters?

In WWI it was called 'shell shock'. But the time 1939 rolled around, it had become 'battle fatigue'. Sometime between Korea and Vietnam, it was 'operational exhaustion'. Whatever the name, it simply what happens when you stress people past a certain point.

Ever seen a photo of someone with a 'thousand-yard stare'? Terrifying.

Of course, those throwing around stereotypes rarely understand that that is what they're doing.
Oh, so basically damned if I do damned if I don't? Okay, you're right.

I guess no soldiers have ever decided to serve because college wasn't an option for them. I must have just made that up in my head. My bad.

Except that I've literally heard multiple people say that they joined the army because they couldn't make it into a university. One kid told me it was either the Army or a factory and he didn't want to be working in a factory the rest of his life. I'm sure he's very honored to serve his country by default.

Do all soldiers think like this? No. Most probably don't. But to deny that none of our soldiers think this way is a bit ludicrous.

Well, it's a good thing I didn't say that, then!

I was sworn in 14 hours after I graduated high school. The Y-donor was never going to give me money for college.
And it got me the fuck out of Indiana.

After twenty years in the Navy I spent 14 years at Purdue, professional student. Then I got ~$100,000 in student loans written off by taking my old job back, but as a civilian.
