Trump and Conservatism As A Threat: What Should Be Done?

Trump and Conservatism As A Threat: What Should Be Done?
I view Conservatism and Conservatives as a threat to democracy and a properly run government.  It has a history of stopping and turning back reforms.  The Republican Party has shown that it really does not care for the middle and lower classes,  but only cares for the rich and the corporate elite.  Add Dominionism to the mix and you have a very poisonous cocktail indeed.

I am really frightened for the future of America and for my people.  Let me explain: by "my people" I mean all of the Nones and Secularists that make up part of the Left, the atheists, agnostics, and Freethinkers and all the un-churched.  For many years I have seen the Religious Right as dangerous, and especially when I found out how the Dominionists view those who are not exactly like them, and how they want to establish a fascist theocratic Christian state.  Levitical Law is quite clear: those who do not cow-tow to the deity are eliminated.  We are in  grave danger here in America.  And those of you around the other parts of the world are in danger too.

So what I am getting at is that I do not think we who are Progressive in our politics and are skeptical of religion should be complacent or unprepared for what is coming down the road.  I think we need to be more aggressive in our response to Conservatism and Dominionism.  We should be doing all that we need to do to protect ourselves from a possible oppressive regime.

So far I have not seen any discussion about taking measures to protect ourselves within the Secularist community.  Thus I am kick starting it now.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

Run good candidates and win elections.

Be effective at persuasive arguments and win others over to your side. Politics should be like the game "MouseTrap"! Roll the dice , move the mice. Nobody gets hurt.

Mid-term elections in two years. Remind people that we don't only elect a President every four years.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

In the current environment, with Trump's term starting, voting conservative is dangerous. But not all conservative ideas are bad -- fiscal responsibility, for instance. Not all conservatism is religiously-based, either.

If only our conservatives actually practiced fiscal responsibility. Like everything else that comes out of their mouths, it's total bullshit.

As for Trump, I wouldn't really worry about the dominionists or any sort religious issue. I'm more worried about him strengthening the oligarchy and eroding the middle class.

I agree that most of them are indeed full of shit, not just regarding fiscal responsibility, but "small" government as well.

That indicts the politicians, though -- not the principle.

Get liberals to vote nationwide and this will all be a thing of the past.

Liberals. Don't. Vote.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

They are for smaller government... unless you have a uterus, enjoy sex with someone of the same gender, or want to use the restroom of your choice.

Yeah, that was rather the point.
