I've always wondered why belief in Hell persosted for so long. Most people hold religious beliefs for comfort. Most religious people shift their beliefs to suit themselves. Hell does not seem like a comforting belief.

Hell is for the vindictive people who enjoy the idea of the people they hate burning in torment for eternity. It's the threat they use against people who try to pull sheep away from the flock and educate them.

Of course muslims go to hell and it's a really bad hell.  The Koran says so.  The interesting thing is that most of the people in the Islamic hell are women.

In the Christian fairy tale once you croak you end up in one of three places: hell; death; or the sea.  The good news is that all three of those destinations are temporary and everyone will make bail on Judgment Day.  Now just because a person spent time in hell it doesn't mean that he won't get into the golden cube instead of being tossed into the lake of fire along with hell and death.  If he ends up in the golden cube it's on a planet that's bathed in constant light with no hint of darkness and no sea.  

According to the Jewish Babylonian Talmud (Chagigah 27a, you can Google it) no Jewish rabbi will ever go to hell.  That's because even if he is a total scumbag his good deeds still outweigh his bad deeds.

A live birth infant is doomed to Hell unless accepting of Jesus offer of Salvation, assuming the parents are attending the correct church/schism/sect/denomination and instill belief in the correct 'original version' Jesus, accept no substitutes.
 The granting of a pardon is an imputation of guilt, and the acceptance a confession of it.
